The Ring,
By Angela Scott (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Ring (Mass Market Paperback)
When I saw the movie based on this book, I had to go and buy the book. Danielle Steel does an amazing job of bringing the characters to life, and drawing the reader into the story. From the first sentence, I was hooked. Ariana von Tripp is an amazing woman who finds love on more than one occasion. The reader will cry at Ariana's many heartbreaks, and will feel joy when she finds happiness. This is one of the best books Steel has written...ever. Everyone MUST read this book. You will be a Danielle Steel fan for life!

While Steel's books may not hold high literary status, her books are popular, and reading The Ring is one of her best efforts.Steel, through her well honed writing skills, takes the female character through several love relationships starting with a character that she learned to love against all odds. Her love of a German Nazi solider, and her love of another, finally leads to finding the greatest love of her life. Read the book and you'll find out how love does endure through all situations and finally wins out. One of her best books.

This is a wonderful book. We follow Arianna through her life in Germany, losing her mother, than father and brother, and finding love with a German soldier. When he is killed, she has no one to turn to. Alone and afraid she heads to America where she discovers that she is pregnant. She is befriended by a family in New York, who invite her into their home and their lives. She is quickly betrayed by them and once again finds herself alone, this time with a baby to care for and protect. This is my favorite Steel book. I cried through whole chapters ( a good sign for me). Stongly recommended.

Her Best,

This was the first Danielle Steel book I ever read many years ago and it's still her best. In some of her later books she loses the magic of this one.

Gone with the Wind in Germany,

I originally read this in 1981 and was impressed then. I was still in high school and felt this was a great history lesson. I decided to read it again this year and experienced Ms Steel's greatest work. The prose is linear and easily read. The characters are interesting. The plot moves swiftly and powerfully. It is the one book that set her apart in the genre. Its the reason she is the literary celebrity she is today. Everything that followed was a gradual decline.Set in Berlin from the mid 1930s onward, it deals with sensitive and still relevant issues of Jewish/German relationships with the terror of Hitlers politics, the complications and destruction it brought. Ariana is the young yet wise heroine. Her life takes some unusual turns. Her love, loss and triumph are skillfully weaved in the pages. There is the usual luxury used-diamonds, emeralds, furs and fancy cars. There was an upper class of German society before the war that eventually became an enemy of the state as well. Nothing is sacred, and our "Miss Scarlett", Ariana(diamonds well hidden) must flee Berlin. There was a miniseries produced in the 1990s that was forgettable. In the right hands, a big screen treatment of it could be great. Right now, Steel is looked at with disdain. If she would have just slowed down to a book every 2 years or so, she could have maintained her literary integrity. She became a product and now has a staff of "ghostwriters" who follow her formulas. The Ring was totally written with her hand. This was what he buzz was about. A few novels came after, yet her WWII epics stand out. She had took pulse of the 20th century. Sadly the patient has died.

A book worth going back to.....,
This review is from: The Ring (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book for the first time when I was in high school (about 15 years ago), and I immediately became hooked on reading everything that Danielle Steel has written (with a few disappointments along the way). This book is by far one of my all-time favorites. The story is excellent, and you really feel connected to the characters during good times and bad. This book definitely left an impression on me. I am about to read it for the third time now, which is odd for me, since once is usually enough, but that shows how well-written this particular book actually is. I would recommend this book 100%.

This earlier book of Danielle Steele's is one of my favorites. The main character is an interesting and strong woman. The story is filled with suspense, danger and of course, romance.

A good lesson that life isn't fair.,

This is by far my favorite Danielle Steel book I've read. I liked the plot and characters, and the style in which it was written seemed very real. Being German myself, I was impressed how Mrs. Steel brought out the fact that during WWII, not all Germans were Nazis. Many were innocent victims as well, like Ariana and her family. But all books have a flaw, and I was a little annoyed that Ariana was always hasty to love and marry. All in all though, this novel really tugs at your heart. Beautiful job, Mrs. Steel.
