One of Cusco's best,
By
This review is from: Ring of the Dolphin (Audio CD)
Most of Cusco's releases are available only in Europe. This album was originally released in Germany as Ring der Delphine. In the US, some of the tracks were put on various CDs, which are really just "Best of" CDs drawing from other Cusco releases. Of all the German releases (I have them all, as I lived there), this and Tales from a Distant Land are by far the best. The music here is simply great. The German release also had a long storybook (in German) about the tale of the Rings of the Dolphins, and how they progressed through history. Anyway, buy this album. It's really good: the music is quite different from Apurimac. Various instruments and synthesizers are combined to make a great album, and there's not a single track I dislike.

Ring of the Dolphin,

This is a beautiful instrumental work of art. The second song was used at my daugther's wedding for the bridesmaids to walk into and the first song was used for the beautiful bride to walk down the aisle. Simply beautiful!

The music is just wonderful. You can just sit back, close your eyes and relax or you can read the little story that comes with each music piece. My favorite is DJEBEL AT TARIK. The music makes you feel like you are there, living every moment. I am waiting for the full-length novel with the same title.

ONE OF THE BEST OF CUSCO,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ring of the Dolphin (Audio CD)
THIS IS THE FIRST CUSCO CD THAT I PURCHASED AND THE ONE THAT HOOKED ME ON CUSCO. VERY EASY LISTENING. SINCE BUYING RING OF THE DOLPHIN I HAVE WENT ON TO PURCHASE 6 MORE CUSCO CD'S AND HAVE NOT BEEN DISAPPOINTED WITH ANY OF THEM.

I have collected many of CUSCO's CDs and yet this one stands out as one of my favorites. The melodies are so rich with content. I discover things I had not heard before everytime I listen to it. The way these guys weave this music together is pure magic. If you like Yanni, the early works of Peter Buffett or Horizont you like this music.

A letdown after Apurimac II,
This review is from: Ring of the Dolphin (Audio CD)
I was hooked on Cusco after a friend introduced them to me with Apurimac II, a brilliant album from start to finish. I saw this in the store when it first came out and snagged it up. I was thoroughly disappointed. Its a bit boring, with the first 4 tracks carrying the weight of the whole album (mostly the 4th, The Waters Of Cesme). The album starts off with the title track which is an epic snoozer save for a few good moments. It tries to create a ethereal ambiance but ultimately fails to put the album in flight. At only 8 tracks (to include a worthless "reprise" of the first track), its clear most of this was throwaway material. At the same time, the group were apparently experimenting with a "Celtic" sound, which they fail at big time. There's nothing Celtic about this music. It was also, according to the booklet, apparently supposed to be accompanied by a book inspired by the "story" of the album, as far as I know that never happened. Anyway, Cusco improved with Apurimac III and Inner Journey: Myths And Legends. Skip this one unless you're a completest. There's a few good moments on here, but nothing that isn't blown away by Cusco's other work.

Ring of the Dolphin/Cusco,

This is the most neutral of my collection of Cusco CDs. When compared to Apurimac III for instance it pales noticeably. I still listen to it as it does contain new material but it does not have the power or warmth of other CDs by this fine group.

A bit of repetition,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ring of the Dolphin (Audio CD)
I love Cusco's music, but I believe this CD is a ripoff of the consumer, because half of the music is new and half of it has already appeared on other CDs. Also this is their attempt at Celtic music and it doesn't work as well for them as the Inca influence on their others, and the North American Indian influence on Apurimac III. This is their weakest CD, and I would suggest instead Apurimac, Apurimac II and Apurimac III, and then their others.
