Book Description

May 6, 2008

The Ring follows a young New York lawyer who receives two rings -- one
from her fiancé and one that will lead her on an
unforgettable adventure.

On her twenty-seventh birthday, New York lawyer Cristina Wilson receives a diamond engagement ring from her fiancé, Mike, a wealthy stockbroker. Later that day, a messenger from Barcelona delivers a beautiful antique jewel, a ruby set in bone, from a mysterious sender. Cristina wears them both, unaware that they are incompatible. The ruby soon works its mysterious effects, giving her strange and unsettling dreams.

Cristina is swept away to Spain to attend the reading of her godfather's will, where she reunites with her first love, Oriol, and soon the powerful attraction that once overwhelmed them in their adolescent years is rekindled. Together Cristina and Oriol embark on an odyssey in search of a Templar treasure that has remained hidden for centuries in a place that only they can uncover. From New York lawyer to intrepid adventurer, Cristina experiences a profound journey of love, life, and death as she learns an unforgettable lesson that could redirect the course of her destiny.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Cristina Wilson, the heroine of Molist's subpar adventure novel, receives two rings on her 27th birthday: one an engagement solitaire from her longtime boyfriend, the other a ruby set-in-bone from her dead godfather, Enric. The arrival of Enric's ring sets in motion a chain of events (strange dreams among them) that sends Cristina to Barcelona for the reading of Enric's secret will. In Spain, Cristina is reunited with old flame Oriol, whom Cristina partners up with after reading a letter from Enric that tells her to [f]ind that treasure that I couldn't find. Molist throws many familiar obstacles in their path as they search out the treasure: paintings with hidden clues, a crooked art dealer, a mysterious guardian, modern-day Templars, the ancient diary of a Templar monk and a hidden treasure that may be the Holy Grail are all trotted out before the mystery is solved. Though the passages describing Barcelona are well done, the narrative's hobbled by weak prose (exclamation points are much abused), characters that act as pawns of the plot and improbable twists. There are much stronger contenders in the Templar subgenre. (May)

From Booklist

First off, it should be noted that this novel has nothing to do with the American horror movie The Ring. This Ring, which first appeared in Spain in 2004, concerns a Barcelona-born woman, currently living in New York, who receives an odd gift: a ruby ring that appears to be very old. Even more odd, the gift comes from her godfather, who died many years ago. Returning to Spain, the woman hooks up with her cousin Oriol, with whom she once shared a romantic attraction, and together they pursue the mystery of the ring, with startling results (without giving too much away, let’s say that the Knights Templar, and a long-lost treasure, figure prominently in the ring’s history). It’s an appealing novel, combining historical and contemporary stories, with a likable protagonist; unfortunately, the flow of the story is often interrupted by the clunkiness of the translation, which frequently renders the author’s prose in a darker shade of purple than one hopes he intended. Still, readers intrigued by the Knights Templar will be amply rewarded, if they can concentrate on the story and not the style. --David Pitt

1.0 out of 5 stars Another Bad Da Vinci Code Knockoff, July 2, 2008
This review is from: The Ring: The Last Knight Templar's Inheritance (Paperback)
The plot idea for this book is a good one. The beautifully designed cover and the blurb "the Last Knight's Templar's Inheritance" drew me in and I was ready for a hopefully well written Templar Treasure adventure. Wrong. Although the story idea was good, it unfortunately was not well executed. Parts of the story were written very well, other parts were written so poorly that I kept thinking throughout the book that it seemed like it was written by two authors. I have to also say that an awful lot of the story was very predictable which ruins the wish to keep plodding along. The issue I have the most complaint about is that the characters are so lame. Three main characters make up the story, three friends from childhood who inherit a legacy and are thrust into a thrilling hunt for the lost treasure of the Templar Knights. These three people have got to be the most immature young people I have ever come across. The dialog between them was so bad, the integrity of the main character of Christina was appalling, and there never was any deep character development for any of them. I cant say I liked one character in this book, they were simply shallow, sarcastic, and all had schizophrenic personalities that changed like chameleons. I would loved to have seen a more seasoned writer pen this same story. This author in my eyes is not accomplished or polished and it really came through clearly to ruin the story. I barely could finish it, many times I almost put it down, and in my eyes, the ending was simply not worth the overly long journey. Give this a big miss. In fact at this moment, for a very new book that was just released, I found it telling that there were so many many copies of it used for just a dollar or two. I guess no one wants to keep it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, October 20, 2011
This review is from: The Ring: The Last Knight Templar's Inheritance (Paperback)
I agree with most of the other reviews. While the poor writing might be due to bad translation, by the end of this book I wanted to tell Cristina to just go home and grow up. She sounded more like 17 than 27. While the subject matter was truly interesting (and may have been been better toold my another author) the dialogue and conversations were lame at best.

And ... while the author attemts to wrap up loose ends in the last chapter, what happened to Luis? Every other character is accounted for and no one seems to have missed one of the 3 main characters? Poorly done ...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Ringing Hit!, July 29, 2010
By
This review is from: The Ring: The Last Knight Templar's Inheritance (Paperback)
As others have said, it right up there with Dan Brown. I think its better than his latest, The Lost Symbol and I hope the author continues to write suspense novels like this! I was hooked and couldn't put this down until I finished!
