THIS IS THE GREAT LOST SOUL ALBUM OF THE 70's,
By Woody from New York "lookin4364@aol.com" (Brooklyn, NY USA) - See all my reviews

So....put your laughter aside. Yes "Ring My Bell" is perhaps the classic one-hit wonder, but this album is incredible! Subtract "Ring" and a song called "Make Believe Lovers" and you're left with an incredible seventies soul album. Ward has a very high-pitched voice -- somewhere in the Deniece Williams/Minnie Riperton world -- but the songs on this album could have been on a great Gladys Knight album they are that good. "You Lied" and the killer "I Won't Stop Loving You" are true classics. Order this -- you will not regret it.

I was so proud of Anita Ward who went to Rust College in Holly Springs, MS, when "Ring My Bell" excelled to the top of the charts in 1979. But the magic doesn't stop with that 1 song-there are other noteworthy gems left to listen to, including "I Won't Stop Loving You," (a song I recorded in 1995 on my own debut CD, DEEP INSIDE MY SOUL), "You Lied," and "Spoiled By You Love". The newer selections on this cd, "Curtains Up" and "I'm Ready For Your Love," show what Anita could have done had she had the opportunity. Many reviewers discount Anita as a "one hit wonder", but that's not true. Anita did manage another top 100 hit, "Don't Drop My Love," but it is not included on this cd. Also, some of her best work appeared on her second LP, but none of the songs are on this collection. Still, it's worth listening to and I recommend it 100 percent.

This is a great disco album. I know, I know, that's an oxymoron! For the most part, I'd agree, but there are a scant few disco albums I like, including some Donna Summer stuff, some Amii Stewart, and this CD.
