The most impressive toy sword I've ever seen,

My son loves Lord of the Rings.
I bought this for him expecting another plastic sword. Instead it is a beautiful reproduction, with an appearance of real metal, and a weight to it that feels just right. The sword lights up in the most incredible fashion, where what looks like solid metal glows with a blue light. I don't know how they did that but it is an amazing effect.

It would fool Bilbo,

This sword is awesome and worth the $. It looks real, and it feels real in your hand. Even though the blade is composite/plastic, it looks like shining steel until you look closely and see that the edge is not sharp. Turn it on, and the blue glow appears to emanate from deep within the sword. The glow is completely even so it doesn't just look like someone put a light bulb inside a piece of plastic. The blade is reasonably durable, and the harder you hit things, the more "clanging" sound you'll hear. It actually sounds like what you image a sword might. A note of caution - and this should be expected; the instructions do warn you about hitting other hard items. I haven't been willing to experiment too much in this regard, but thus far I have not damaged the blade.
Overall a great novelty. If you're considering it for a kid who loves to sword or lightsabre fight, I'd look elsewhere as I'm sure it will not stand up to this treatment... Unless they appreciate LOTR enough to recognize it's "value".

My Son is a sword nut (8 years old), it has been his dream to have a real sword, unfortunatly he would also like to run around swinging it.
I was amazed at this sword and how well it looks. With the metal handle and the balance it is very close to handling a real one. I am just very impressed.

This sword is awesome. Whether you just want to hang it up on your wall, or use it for a Halloween costume, it's perfect. On other sites you see that a sting replica sword ranges from 200-400 dollars--and it doesn't even glow! This, however, has all of the effects of the Sting from the original movie, and it's only forty dollars! I reccommend this completely. It doesn't matter if it has no educational value: becuase that's not what it was made for!

Our family is on a recent, deep Lord of the Rings kick and we needed at least one authentic sword; love those at Noble, but don't have hundreds and needs to be okay for an 8 year old. Photos of this sword looked good and special features sounded fun. We are all thrilled with this reproduction--in the "off" mode, it is just a great replica sword--the hilt is heavy and feels authentic. The blade is a very heavy plastic that, even close up, appears to be steele. Detailed on the hilt and blade are very nice, do not appear 'cheap'. In on mode, will "clang" if you strike something (lightly! You will be bruised! And you COULD break the blade). Further into "on" mode, it glows Orc-warning blue and gently hums. Even the adults think it's pretty cool. Price was excellent, seller was without a single problem--we're all looking forward to Halloween with this thing!

My 13 year old son really wanted a real sword to hang on his wall but I could not bring myself to buy such a dangerous item. This sword is very nice! I ordered it through Amazon on December 6th and recieved it December 9th and this was standard shipping. Amazon is great!

I got this sword for my friend last christmas and he loved it! Both of us are crazy LOTR fanatics and I thought that giving Sting as a gift was a great idea.
As for the toy, it doesn't really feel like a toy at all, it's got some weight and it looks realistic but its safe. Blunt edge and the bottom part of the hilt comes off for the batteries (which you unscrew). But the batteries that this sword uses isn't exactly found in the local grocery or shop. Coolest part is it lighting up and making those sounds! And it comes with a little stand so you can display it on a shelf. I think I'll buy one for myself as well.

my Favorite sward,

When I opened the package I was stuned. I knew that the sward would glow and so I thought it would be made of plastic and look like plastic. I was excited that it is made of plastic but it has a real metal look. It shines and shimmers. then when you put the bateries in and turn it on it looks like a real sward glowing. I think this is a totaly awsome live memory of the movie and books. A great gift for any fan.

Well, okay, it all depends upon what you're looking for. The elvish script on the blade provides opportunity for linguistics learning and the heft of the thing provides lots of occasions for practicing self-control and observing cause and effect.
This is much better made than some of the other "Sting"s out there. There is a real heft to the blade, and although it isn't particularly sharp, it doesn't have the bulbous "This is only a toy" look that a previous gift had. The lighting effect is marvelous, though the motion sensor can be a little frustrating with regard to the "battle sounds". I made the mistake of buying the wrong lithium batteries at first, but that was my own fault, and with the correct batteries the blade works very well. The ten-year-old has carted his around for days since Christmas; the fifteen-year-old immediately put the display stand together and hung it from her wall. All in all, very satisfying for this Tolkien fan and his kids. |
