A *must* for your beach umbrella,

We went to the beach with two beach umbrellas and only one sand anchor. The sand anchor did a great job of digging down deep into the sand and keeping the one umbrella firmly attached -- even in the breeze. We couldn't get the other umbrella (the one without a sand anchor) into the sand deep enough and it blew on to the people next to us, so we had to put that umbrella away.
VERY easy to use and does a great job. After I got home from the beach I ordered a second anchor for my other beach umbrella. Personally, I think it's a "must" for your beach umbrella. A Note about my order: Although I ordered the one pictured (with a metal piece on top), they sent me the all-plastic version (twice), which I kept and works great. I would imagine they'd both work equally as well, but in all fairness this review truly pertains to the all plastic version which Amazon calls the "RIO Beach Sand Anchor for Beach Umbrellas". Even though my sand anchors are all plastic, they seem very sturdy and rigid. No problems.

Umbrella stays put!,
We recently spent a week at Lake Michigan and used this beach sand anchor often. It's lightweight (important when you have to carry it up a dune!) and easy to turn into the sand....even with a little arthritis. The anchor made it a whole lot easier to get the umbrella positioned in the sand and always kept it from tipping or blowing over. One day the wind was so strong our umbrella threatened to collapse BUT it stayed anchored!

fine sand anchor,

Bought two of these anchors, one for us and one for my folks. We had excellent luck with them. Easy to use and did the trick in the afternoon winds of the Maine beach.

We bought one of these from a local Target to use at Daytona Beach. It worked GREAT! It made our umbrella easy to setup and kept it from blowing over in the strong onshore breeze. Highly recommended from FL.

Umbrella blew away anyway,
By It wasn't a really windy day either. I think this product would be useful in hard packed sand, but it was no match for the soft sand of the Jersey Shore. Guess that is why I didn't see it in the stores there. I did see it in South Carolina, where the beaches are hard packed and thought it would work up north. I'll just continue to "wiggle" the umbrella down into the soft NJ sand and forego the anchor.

Just returned from vacation at the Jersey shore. Used our new sand anchor for the first time and we were disappointed. We followed the directions and put the umbrella in the anchor. There was a light breeze blowing but it was nowhere near the 30 mph that the product claims it can withstand. Within an hour, the anchor began to loosen and soon after the umbrella blew off its stand. I would not recommend this product.

Does this sound like you? You're planning a nice, relaxing trip to the beach. You've got all of your gear, including a super-duper beach umbrella. You get there, and you dig like mad to stick the umbrella into the sand, and then what happens? About 20 minutes later, you're running down the beach as your (formerly clean, pristine) umbrella topples end over end away from you. Children laugh and adults snicker as you drag what-used-to-be-a-nice-umbrella back up the beach. You need one device, my friends, and only one device - this sand anchor. I was dubious that such a small, simple corkscrew gizmo would work, but trust me, I'll be giving these away as gifts to fellow family beachgoers at Christmastime (and they're a tough crowd to please!!). Do yourself a favor, buy this and be happy!!

The anchor is very well made, however you need to screw it down really really far in the sand. It has an extra set of blades on top that help with this.

I ordered this product because we have an old one that we use each summer at the beach. It prevents the umbrella from being picked up carried and even hurting someone near by
the new one is too small and doesn't work properly because of the size. I was really annoyed to think that I ordered it thinking that the product was the same and was disappointed to receive a small and ineffective one . I would advise against purchasing this product for the purpose of anchoring an umbrella in the sand. the older ones worked this one doesn't |
