Best as a 1st Expansion Purchase,

Just a few bucks and you can add several new tiles and slightly more interesting gameplay to your Carcassonne game. Ownership of the longest road posses the scout tile, owner of the largest city gets the King tile. At the end of the game you get extra points for the roads and cities depending on which tile(s) you posses. Easy, cheap, fun and a good starting expansion for the game. (also comes with tiles for Hunters and Gatherers game, so don't get confused and toss them in with Carcassonne).

My children and I enjoy this Carcassonne expansion.
It contains 12 tiles. The box is just big enough to hold the tiles, so it is surprisingly small (about the size of a jewelry box for a ring). The photo is somewhat deceptive. There is only 1 box, with blue on one side and green on the other. This combination expansion has tiles for both the regular Carcassonne and for the Hunters and Gatherers game. In other words, you will only be able to use all of the tiles if you have both games.

A fun addition to Carcassonne,

Per dollar, this has to be the best expansion module to the always challenging Carcassonne game. Only a few new rules, but several extra pieces that add to the possibilities without needlessly confusing anyone. Worth getting, even if you don't like expansion packs.

This would make a perfect stocking stuffer for someone who has this game. Even though you don't get alot of pieces it really did add to the main game.

It's an OK expansion! Doesn't dramatically improve gameplay,

I have only the Hunters & Gatherers game. So this review is for only that part of the expansion (If you didn't know, this set has two small expansions, one ea for Carcossone (original) and H&G variant. The H&G cards in this expansion give the players holding them some extra powers. However, these cards are distributed at the start of the game and then never change hands - unfortunately, they are not of equal power. So, it doesn't make the game more interesting. It will be nice if you have to do something to "earn" these cards and then use them. We played it just once and then never touched it again.

This is a good addition to the basic game. It has 2 parts - king gives extra points at the end of the game for completed cities and roads; scout adds to the hunters and gatherers expansion. Would be nice if it came with a few more tiles but these additions are different from the basic pieces so at least they are interesting.

We have had the basic Carcassonne game for a few years and have enjoyed this expansion pack. It works well with both of the River expansions. Would be a good edition for people looking to add a bit more to their basic Carcassonne playing.

We purchased the Carcassone game for our 32-year old daughter for Christmas and we played it for hours and hours. Lots of fun. It's cardboard, so don't get it wet, but it's great for all ages.

I purchased this expansion for Carcassonne (see my review on the actual game) for just a few dollars. The expansion came in 1 box with new pieces for both original Carcassonne & "Hunters & Gatherers" so you only use about half of the included pieces. The new pieces are a great addition to the game but the actual King, Wanderer, & Scout cards don't add much. The Scout is used in "C: H & G" so I don't use that one; the King & Wanderer add points in the end-game scoring. The King & Wanderer cards are passed around during regular game play to the person with the longest road (wanderer) or largest city (king). The cards change possession among players whenever a longer road/larger city is closed, and whoever has them when the game ends gets bonus points. The bonus scoring can take a while & be somewhat difficult to count depending on how you choose to do it. We have found that many times while trying to "steal" cities & roads from each other during the game we end up sharing them so we also share the king or wanderer card. This essentially renders the card useless b/c the bonus points go to both of us. These cards would probably make more of an impact in a 3-6 player game. Although your game strategy won't change much with this expansion, it is one of the cheaper expansions. I love the addition of the new game tiles; they offer new & unique pieces not included in the original game or any of the expansions. This expansion gives new options for closing cities or roads that were never possible before. Overall, I think it is well worth a few dollars, even if you only use the added game tiles.

This game is a total blast! Rules were good enough that my 8 yr old understood and we were off playing.
The kids LOOOOOVE it. We've only played the basic game and there are five add-ins included, so we face years of good challenging fun. For the price, this is an exceptional buy! |
