Smaller farms, more complicated strategy,

The Count of Carcassonne (CoC) is an expansion for the game Carcassonne. It is a starting point to be used in place of the river or single starting tile included with the basic game.
CoC allows players to "stash" pieces in the town. As the game progresses, they can draw on these pieces to take control of valuable map features (cities, roads, cloisters, farms) as other players score. It makes the game more complex and adds another dimension to strategy and game play. The design of the tiles also eliminates the mega farms the often develop in the basic game. I think those who prefer Carcassonne sessions heavy on strategy and competition for each and every scoring opportunity, will enjoy this expansion the most. We enjoy it but don't play with it often.

This review is from: Carcassonne the Count (Toy)
You build the 12-piece Count of Carcassonne starter set of tiles, and when you complete a city/road/cathedral for which someone else gets points, then you get to take one of your followers, put it into the city or farm area of this structure, and then when something else is scored, you have an opportunity to put your followers that you've added to this structure onto the completed city or farm. You can do this with roads and cathedrals as well, but there's no point as they don't give you enough points to warrant the loss of your follower.
So now, if you're thinking of starting a city and putting your follower no it, forget it. Somebody will close your city, give you the two points, put their follower into the "Town of Carcassonne", and then reserve that piece till the end of the game, when they drop it on the farm that contains 12 cities. Be careful near the end of the game, when you've got some stray roads and cities that may not be closed. Folks will close them, give you the measly points, and then get a big advantage when that huge city closes or when farms are scored. Very good addition to the base game and the other expansions.

A cut-throat expansion for Carcassonne,
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Carcassonne the Count (Toy)
In the line of cut-throat expansions for Carcassonne this one is one that I don't use too often. It's a good idea, but it just adds too the complexity of the map on top of the simpler expansions. It's a good expansion, but I just don't use it too much for this reason.I suppose if I wasn't already using four other expansions I'd probably include this one. If you want to make your map that much bigger and add one more dynamic to your game, then this expansion is cheap and worth the addition.
