Smaller farms, more complicated strategy,

The Count of Carcassonne (CoC) is an expansion for the game Carcassonne. It is a starting point to be used in place of the river or single starting tile included with the basic game.
CoC allows players to "stash" pieces in the town. As the game progresses, they can draw on these pieces to take control of valuable map features (cities, roads, cloisters, farms) as other players score. It makes the game more complex and adds another dimension to strategy and game play. The design of the tiles also eliminates the mega farms the often develop in the basic game. I think those who prefer Carcassonne sessions heavy on strategy and competition for each and every scoring opportunity, will enjoy this expansion the most. We enjoy it but don't play with it often.

The Count is a big strategy change for Carcassonne,

You build the 12-piece Count of Carcassonne starter set of tiles, and when you complete a city/road/cathedral for which someone else gets points, then you get to take one of your followers, put it into the city or farm area of this structure, and then when something else is scored, you have an opportunity to put your followers that you've added to this structure onto the completed city or farm. You can do this with roads and cathedrals as well, but there's no point as they don't give you enough points to warrant the loss of your follower.
So now, if you're thinking of starting a city and putting your follower no it, forget it. Somebody will close your city, give you the two points, put their follower into the "Town of Carcassonne", and then reserve that piece till the end of the game, when they drop it on the farm that contains 12 cities. Be careful near the end of the game, when you've got some stray roads and cities that may not be closed. Folks will close them, give you the measly points, and then get a big advantage when that huge city closes or when farms are scored. Very good addition to the base game and the other expansions.

A cut-throat expansion for Carcassonne,

In the line of cut-throat expansions for Carcassonne this one is one that I don't use too often. It's a good idea, but it just adds too the complexity of the map on top of the simpler expansions. It's a good expansion, but I just don't use it too much for this reason.I suppose if I wasn't already using four other expansions I'd probably include this one. If you want to make your map that much bigger and add one more dynamic to your game, then this expansion is cheap and worth the addition.

This expansion the the award winning game comes with a dozen tiles forming the city of carcassonne and the count. The basic idea to this expansion is that by helping other players you get the opportunity to help yourself more in the future. The more you score points for someone else the greater control you have over the city of carcassonne and in turn the rest of the board. The instructions for this expansion were not worded very clearly and it took me several times reading it to understand how it works but once you get the hang of it it adds a whole new element to game play. If you are a carcassonne enthusiast I would not recommend that you get this expansion first but you should get it.

I bought this game last year for myself and one 12-year old grandson. I had a great time playing with him and his parents. The pieces are very sturdy and the rules are easy to learn (although we still get stuck figuring out points with the farmers at the end). Then I bought several extensions for the game, and we really liked the Tower extension (great fun!). This game is great with 2 people, better with 3 people. This year I gave the game to another grandson and look forward to hearing his reviews!

Instructions are confusing; probably better for 3+ players,

My husband and I really enjoy the original Carcassonne game. We have the Traders&Builders expansion, and the Cathedral. This expansion's instructions are difficult to understand. It looks like it would be better with 3+ people. We have yet to figure out how to use this expansion -- and we have a combined 2 Bachelors, 2 Masters, and 2 law degrees. Hopefully we will figure it out so as to not waste $5. At least we got free shipping!

OK, if you are reading this you play Carcassone. How many expansion packs do we need? I have the first 2 (builders and traders adn inns and cathedrals) and always play with them. The Count adds something, but for me not a lot to the game. Most often, we just start with the river and don't bother with the count. If you don't have any of the expansion packs, I'd suggest one of the main ones first. Count changes game strategy a bit, but we haven't gotten into it that much.

I bought this game for my husband for Christmas. The hope was that we could spend some time together with the TV off once the baby went to sleep. Well, it worked! We both love the game and can't wait to buy expansion packs.

We've played this one a few times and really enjoy it. If you like having different expansions for the main game, this one will be a good addition. It's got cards, but no other additional pieces, and the new rules are easy to incorporate. We play it with both river expansions to add some time to the game.
