Product Description

Product Description

The adventure can begin. Ahead of you: Australia, in all its impressive beauty. Now you're a ranger, flying your biplane across the fifth continent and performing tasks all over the country. Industrialisation in Queensland? Nature conservation in Victoria? A good plan, surprising tactics and flexibility are needed to stay one step ahead of the others "Down Under."

From the Manufacturer

Australia is the fifth and smallest continent at the beginning of the 1920s. The economic crisis is yet to come. Industrial modernization and development are pursued with vigor to help the economy “down under” progress. At the same time, the governments is arranging for countless National Parks to be set up and are initiating numerous projects to support the natural environment. Every player leads a troop of rangers who have been assigned the task, by the government, of carrying out various conservation and industrialization projects. The most successful player wins the game.

I love this game! Austalia zips along with multitudes of tactical possibilities, and you have to pay attention all the time to whats going on. You get to fly around Australia in a little biplane (it is supposed to take place in the 1920s) and drop off or pick up your rangers to control territory - its fun! It has a fast flow to it, as scoring possibilities appear and get snatched up at a brisk pace. This is not overly confontational, but you do get to steal a nice score from your opponent if they blink. The game starts out wide open, but the board fills up fast, and with unexpected developements. The middlegame is a chaos of tactics. As you approach the endgame, you realize the fateful consequences of your early play.

Great family game. My kids like it, my girlfriend likes it, and it plays well with two, three, or four players. It finishes in an hour, easily. If you want to try the wonderful games by the design team of Kramer and Kiesling, this is a good start. It is less complex than a heavyweight like Maharaja, and a better game than the classic Tikal. My only negatives for this title are a) aboriginals do not appear in the game, b) the board has to be the least accurate map of Australia ever drawn. Hence the 'educational' rating of only one star.

It is a great board game. I would highly recommend it. I like it a lot. It is my wife's favorite board game and we have a lot of board games. I will say that the set up take a decent amount of time and the direction take a long time to learn the first time, but after that it is great. It a lot of thinking and strategizing. The concept though is relatively simple so most people can play and enjoy it. It will also definitely keep you entertained the whole game. There are two different version to play with the game. So if you feel like you want something new you can play with the alternative rule. I think it was a great game and I have bought it for my friends as presents.

I am in my 30's, and this game is just as much fun for me as it would be for children. There is a good amount of strategy involved in the gameplay, but it is not too complex for kids that are old enough to understand games like Risk and Monopoly.

I really like the gamepieces, and so would children! There are little men, like in Risk, and there are aeroplanes that seem to be very durable. The board is of good quality and the artwork is nice.
