The impressive city of Carcassonne was a magnet for tourists from all lands even in the middle ages. Its large market, grandiose homes, and busy streets made the whole city a popular attraction. Here is your chance to build the city of Carcassonne! Players build walls and towers, found markets, and place followers in the normal way. At the end, you will all enjoy looking at the beautiful 3-D city you have built!

version is pretty much guarenteed to be dominated by whoever has played before at least a couple of times. That is not the case with the original, as the simplicity of the rules and the intuitive nature of the gameplay give even a first time player a fighting chance to win. (one could also say that luck is a bigger factor in the original) It's that feeling that 'I could win this' that makes the best experience for new game players and is what sets the Euro-games (Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, etc) apart from the traditional American board games (many of which are 'death by a thousand cuts' games where once you start losing, you're toast, but not for a long time...)
So, I highly recommend this game for advanced board game players and Carcassonne aficionados, but not for newer players.
This is probably not a game I will ever play with my adult friends who enjoy "gaming". After I play a game of Carcassonne, I really do not care if I win or lose. If I lose, I do not find myself wondering where I went wrong or what I can improve on. Much of the scoring seems overly contrived and just thrown in simply because, after all, people like points don't they? You have points for markets and streets and residential areas and guards and towers. I am normally a competitive person, but if you tell me I just scored 21 points for a market in this game, my reaction is just....meh. There are games, mind you, that have scoring for these types of features that actually makes sense. But here it just feels forced. If I were to play with only adult friends, I suppose a bit of wagering could spice up the enthusiasm.
But for what you get at the price, especially the price Amazon is currently offering, it is a very high quality game with really nice components. The city with its wall and towers really does look cool when you are done. And like I said, if you have kids in the 8 to 13ish range, this game will provide some very valuable time spent with them. And that more than makes up for the deficiencies I mentioned.
I've waited many time (40 days) and I pay the custom fees, but this was planned.
I note to amazon that for me the packaging was not very good: very thin and without padding.
But the game is arrived ok
