This review is from: Alhambra - The Thief's Turn (Toy)
** This is not a stand alone game. You MUST have a base copy of Alhambra to play. **
As with all of the Alhambra expansions this contains four "modules" that can be added to the base game in any combination.
This is the third such expansion and includes:
1) The City Walls: Cards that let you add city walls to a tile as pictured on the card. These walls can't be added over current walls, and remained fixed on the tile for the rest of the game (ie can't be removed or redesigned). Ok idea, but nothing groundbreaking and we usually pass on it for more interesting modules.
2) The Thieves: Cards that allow you to take a currency card of the corresponding color from the supply in between opponents turns (not right before your own). Ok addition to the game. We usually don't bother with it, as we prefer the Bureau De Change cards from the first expansion and find using both to be too much.
3) The Change: Coins for giving change when a player overpays for a building (one coin in same color is received for every two currency units paid over the price). Coins can then be used for later purchasing. Straightforward module that increases options. I find it more useful in larger groups. Should be avoided if players already feel the "exact change" bonus comes up too often.
4) The Street Trader: Moves around your city and adds citizen to tiles if the right color citizen is on the trader when it is built. Points awarded for citizens increase based on diversity. It's fine, but it feels almost like a mini-game within the game instead of seamlessly fitting in.
All four components of this expansion are decent concepts and almost everything fits into the game well and without causing any major balance issues. However the first two expansions are significantly better and this doesn't contain anything I use regularly.

Extension #3, not essential but half good, January 22, 2010

i think the City Wall & Thief cards add to the basic play. the Street Traders are good for a longer game & bonus points. the Change coins i guess are a matter of preference.
right now [...]. seems a good price for trying it.
