Product Description

From the Manufacturer

These airships are majestic as they rise to the heavens. It took a long time before the work on these giants could begin. Engineers had to be employed, a hangar built, materials procured and sponsors found. At last the day has arrived and a giant airship starts its maiden flight towards the horizon. In this exciting game the players use their skill to try to expand their own companies. In the end they will have created an impressive fleet of airships.

Want a fairly quick dice game with a light feel but a bit deeper mechanics? Here you are. It's actually dice and cards. Each turn you reveal a card, select from available cards on a board, and roll your available dice to try to gain cards. Cards gained give you one of 3 different colored dice, one or several, which can be used to roll on future turns to gain more cards. The types and number of dice you may need each turn, will change depending on what cards you are trying to gain and what is available. You gain cards which give you dice, victory points, dice bonuses, or some of each. You can also try to gain airship cards, which always give victory points and advance the game toward an end. Finally, you can build sections of the Hindendberg airship, if enough other airship cards have been won by players. These sections (four in all) also give victory points and advance the game to an end. Gaining airship cards or building Hindenberg sections gain you a wooden airship token, which gives you bonuses to dice rolls.

This game is all about decisions and priorities. Of course with dice comes luck, but planning and clever use of dice increase your odds of winning before your opponent does. Knowing when to spend turns for dice cards versus airship cards is critical. Wait too long to go after the airships, and your opponents may get the easy ones first. It becomes increasingly difficult to gain them as more are revealed, due to the increased variety of dice that will be needed, and higher results that are required.

This is a lot of fun. There are a few good dice games out there (Roll Through The Ages, Can't Stop, Arena Roma are a few). This one sits easily among them, and may even be a bit better. Nice components, solid game boards, and clear instructions complete this desirable game. If you want one you can play regularly with casual or regular gamers, you've discovered a winner. Enjoy!

This is not a hard game to learn, rules are well written with examples. My 13 year old daughter, and even 8 year old can play it competitively. If all you know if Life, Sorry or Monopoly, then you need to step up and try a wider variety of games. The game lasts under half hour and has some strategy and luck with it. You are basically trying to win by gaining the most victory points. You do that by upgrading your airship with improved cards. These cards that you play on your board give you the ability to roll certain dice, white, black or red dice. The better your cards, the better your dice, the more likelihood you have of getting the cards with the bonus points on them. That isn't a total picture of the game, but a very basic outline.
You can read more about it at other game sites.
