My husband and I are avid gamers, especially the European cross-over games. I had really wanted Zooloretto, but our research said that it wasn't the best for 2 players. Since we rarely have anyone else, we look primarily for games that are good for two.

We LOVE the game. We have only ever played it with two, and it's still great. There's a decent bit of strategy involved while also being sort of laid back and is greatly entertaining. Great game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Zoo Management 101, June 8, 2009

Zooloretto is a game of zoo management for 2 to 5 players. Each player manages their own zoo, which includes several animal enclosures and spots for food vendors. During each round, players fill up delivery trucks, choose a truck to fill their zoo, and allocate the animals to the various enclosures.

The game components are made of wood and sturdy cardboard and can withstand many games with young players. The game plays slightly different with 2 players, although it's still enjoyable. All of the scoring takes place at the very end, and a lot happens in the last couple of rounds, so it's anyone's game up until the end.

Zooloretto is a little light on strategy compared to other European board games, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Given the theme and the balance of luck and strategy, the game is very appealing to casual gamers and families. The game length is just right for this audience as well - about 45 minutes.

We played this game with children and adults - complicated enough to make it interesting and requiring some strategizing, yet easy enough for elem. children to understand. Different each time it's played, especially when played with a different number of players. We played it with five, four, three , and two - fun each way.

I bought this for a friend after playing it with our daughter and son-in-law several times. It's spans a great age group, with the younger ones enjoying it on one level (building a zoo with their choice of animals) and older children and adults getting more into the strategy of the game (give those other players animals they don't have room for, etc.).

I bought this game because i thought it might be something good for my 7-12 year old grandchildren. The 12 year old read the directions and figured out how to play and then we taught the 7-10 year olds. They had a great time running their zoos and are learning a lot of decision making ideas - they must make decisions and live with the results - and you really don't know who wins until the end. It is a great lead in to "the bean game".

5.0 out of 5 stars Second only to Settlers, February 28, 2008

This is an awesome game! Second only to my all-time favorite, The Settlers of Catan. Zooloretto can be played fairly quickly and its easier for younger players to understand...plus it can be played with two players quite easily. Despite my love for Settlers, I haven't played it again since I got this game. Can't wait to try the expansion, Aquaretto!

Zooloretto is an excellent family game for children 10 or so and upwards to adults. Players turn over and place various animal tiles face up in a series of holders that may contain up to 3 tiles. In turn a player may either turn up and place another tile in an available holder or take a holder with tiles previously placed. Each tile has a picture of a zoo animal on it and must be placed in one of several areas in each player's individual zoo enclosure. Only one type of animal may be in each area. Additional areas may be 'purchased' and some tiles have 'concession stands' on them which aid in scoring within the areas in which they are placed. Full areas are worth more than partially full enclosures. The game plays in about 45 minutes and is highly recommended.

This game is a family favorite. I thought it might be too hard for a 5 and 7 year old but they LOVE this game and we even take it on vacations with us.
