So, I thought I would write a review as all the information here is conflicting. I purchased this light out of curiosity more than need. My wife rides a Magicshine (what was recognized as probably the best value on the market) so I was curious how this would compare at more than half price, as this is almost a copy of a Magicshine. I am an avid single-track rider and, when the time changes, that leaves me riding off-road in the dark 3 times a week. I am pretty knowledgeable about lighting systems and LED's in general.

There are two classes of bike lights:
1. Lights that are designed for safety and minimal vision enhancement. These usually take non chargeable AA or AAA batteries and are self contained. They are what you would find on the shelf at a sporting goods store or Wal-Mart. On a road bike, this is usually sufficient for deterring getting run over. They are usually less than $20.
2. Lights that enhance vision. They are several hundred to a couple of thousand lumens and will make you see spots if you look into them. They use a battery pack and is usually recharged every ride or two. Some street riders use them but they are most commonly used for riding night rides by mountain bikers in the woods. Historically these lights have started at $100 dollars on up to whatever you want to pay. This light I am reviewing falls in this category and I purchased due to my curiosity of just what a $50 attempt would look like. Here are my observations....
Pros:
1. Price! There is nothing I have seen that is even close to the value proposition here.
2. Build Quality. Anodized aluminum with silicone seals.
3. Output is bright
4. CREE LED...best company in the business
5. Light emitted is not too blue.
6.

I would have given this 5 stars if I'd reviewed it in the first week. Now I've had it nearly 3 weeks and the batteries don't hold a charge very well at all. The light on the power supply is supposed to turn green when fully charged, but it stays red now. If I wiggle the cord I can sometimes get it to turn green. Both my husband and I have gone to ride and realized too late that the headlight has no battery, even though it was recently charged. So, unfortunately it's flaky and there's no way to contact the seller. I bought 2 of these, and they are both underperforming.

Also the little rubber washer thing that attaches the light to your bike causes me some concern. It's stretchy and I'd think it would stretch out in time or get baked by the sun and deteriorate - either way, it seems less than secure. But that might be OK, if the charging was reliable.

The light is bright though. Blows away the latest Catseye. Too bad the charging is flaky.

I have had this a couple of weeks now and the first few charges the battery lasted about 90 mins. I have cycled the battery 3 times in the house to see the run time so I didnt get caught out on the trail.... my trail ride is usually approx 50 mins... first three rides no problem from the battery life, but last night I got 45 miins battery life... silly me had no back up light so had to walk out in the dark...

Seems the batteries are hit and miss on these lights.... I charge mine over night and it is ready the next evening... just done a full cycle test in the house and got 46 mins... again..

It seems the battery is the weak point here... the light itself is great... but it seems quite a few of us have been getting battery problems quite soon after purchase...

I plan to contact the supplier and will update this review as needed.

in the meantime spin the roulette wheel if you wish.

Be cautious in ordering more than one of these with the hopes of using extras for spare batterys or lights. There are nearly 30 different businesses selling these with the sale being fullfilled by Amazon all under the same Amazon listing. As a result, there will be unexpected variations for the exact same item. I have bought 3 of these and each one is different. The first used a 4.2 volt battery even though the listing shows 8.4 VDC. Second light uses the 8.4 VDC battery and charger as advertised and it is the one I am using. The third one, from the same Amazon listing, uses 8.4 VDC but the connectors are different sizes. Can't use the battery as a spare for the second one. But, the connectors from the 4.2 fit the one I plan to use, so a bit of surgery and I have my spare 8.4 VDC battery and charger. I guess you get what you pay for.

If these are anything like the Magicshine lights, the battery cells are from used laptop battery packs and will quickly be defective.

Next time I'll just go ahead and order a quality Niterider light.

This light is really something, it has three settings, bright, really bright and ong bright! I've used it for a while now and have never had it run down the battery. Used it for working, bike riding, spotting owl's, cleaning my dogs ears and Shrimping. Everyone out shrimping asks me where I got the bright light! The battery fits nicely in a cell phone holder and the wire is plenty long enough but not too long. Other sellers on Amazon are selling this light for twice the price, this one was shipped direct from China. Amazon said it would take four to six weeks to ship but it arrived in Florida in sixteen days. When I placed the order the seller contacted me, thanking me for the purchase with shipping details and extensive contact info should I have any problem. I'm so happy with my purchase I'm thinking of buying another!
