Editorial Reviews

Crazy Lixx is a Swedish hard rock band formed in 2002 in Malmö, Sweden. They, along with Crashdïet, Hardcore Superstar, Babylon Bombs and Vains Of Jenna, were among the first group of bands to emerge in what has come to be known as The New Wave of Swedish Sleaze". Just like many of their fellow genre-mates, Crazy Lixx have now separated themselves from the pack by creating their own unique style and are considered to be more of an 80's influenced hard rock band than Swedish Sleaze. Crazy Lixx debuted with the independent release Loud Minority in November 2007 and received great acclaim from media and fans, reaching position #2 in the national Swedish Hard Rock chart. The follow up album New Religion" was equally, if not more successful thanks to the worldwide release on Frontiers Records. Crazy Lixx are now back with a rockin new album which proudly shows off all their influences from KISS to Guns 'N Roses to Buckcherry to Motley Crue. Highly recommended for fans of the aforementioned bands and Steel Panther, Poison, Cinderella and the like.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the last album March 22, 2013

I gave this album 3 out of 5 stars....It's okay.

Basically, I loved the previous album New Religion. It had a great 80's type sound with great production and a lot of catchy tunes. It was melodic, 80's style rock in the vein of Poison, Leppard, Ratt, Skid Row, etc, etc....Great riffs, bridges, melodic choruses....just fun to listen to.

So I was really looking forward to this album hoping to get more of the same. And frankly, I'm just not feeling it with this album. There are a few songs that give me that same feeling from the first album, but overall, it's feels less produced and isn't nearly as melodic as the last album. It's still okay and I do like some of the songs, but it's a little heavier and the bridges and big choruses seem to be missing in most of the songs.

I do like Fire It Up, Downtown and Sweet, Bad & Beautiful....I think those songs are catchy and fit with what I would've expected....

Overall, I really think I was spoiled by New Religion because I enjoyed that album so much and was hoping for more of the same....which I really don't think this album is. But if you were one that was hoping for a little heavier album and a little less production than the last album, then you'll probably enjoy this album. It's okay....still better than most of what is being released today by other bands....But my expectations were very high after hearing New Religion as I thought that album was near perfect.

"Riot Avenue" is the brand new third album by Swedish sleaze metal/melodic hard rock band "Crazy Lixx", marking their second release under "Frontiers Records". On the preceding two albums "Crazy Lixx" were keen to blend sleazy rock'n' roll with a fair amount of melodic rock/AOR tunes which in retrospect made for rather diverse and memorable albums.

"Riot Avenue" finds the established line up of lead singer Danny Rexon, lead guitarist Andy Dawson, bassist Lock Rivano and drummer Joel Ciera Joined by new guitarist Edd Liam. The new acquisition makes for a substantially heavier and riff-centric approach to the established "Crazy Lixx" sound. "Whiskey tango Foxtrot" and "Young Blood" are as intense as any hard rock tune the "Lixx" have come up with in the past, while "Riot Avenue" is one of the most dramatic sleaze tracks one will probably get to hear in 2012. Still the new album does not quite feature the potential melodic rock hit much like the two previous albums which featured "Heroes are forever" and "Blame it on love" respectively". You could say that "Heatseaker" is the melodic rocker of "Riot Avenue" only not as captivating as its predecessors.

Clearly "Riot Avenue" finds "Crazy Lixx" more focused on sleaze rock and hard rock rather than adult oriented rock, never the less, delivering a handful of standout tracks. Fans of "Crashdiet", "Dirty Penny" and "Sister Sin" should definitely make the most of their new album while admirers of "H.E.A.T" and "Work of Art" will probably not connect as well with "Riot Avenue".

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but a little disappointing May 17, 2012

Swedish band Crazy Lixx released their third album "Riot Avenue" in 2012. Along with Crashdiet, Reckless Love and Hardcore Superstar, these guys are bringing back an '80s inspired revival of hard rock music.

After their previous record "New Religion" blew my socks off, I couldn't wait for this release when I heard it was set to drop in April, 2012. However, after listening to the record ten times through, I must express a little bit of disappointment. Crazy Lixx seem to have replaced their Def Leppard love with some serious AC/DC worship. While I love AC/DC, I liked the direction Crazy Lixx was headed with their previous efforts. One other complaint is, after several listens, some of the tracks seem to blend together almost to a fault.

Don't get my wrong though, this is still a pretty decent effort by Crazy Lixx. Not every song stuck out to me as with previous albums, but most of the eleven tracks are hard rocking and melodic as well. My favorite songs from the record so far are "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot", "Church Of Rock", "Young Blood", "In The Night" and "Downtown".

I suggest if you like anything coming out of Sweden these days, you pick this album up. The record is solid enough, just beware, it's not "New Religion" part two.
