5.0 out of 5 stars Us old geezers like Paramore too!
Paramore's known for attracting a pretty young crowd, and that's understandable given how young the band itself is. But I'm a 35 year old guy who's gotten just as hooked on them as any of their teen audience. This is just some great rock music, with great hooks in almost every song and some amazing musicianship all around. Hopefully they'll continue to mature and...

3.0 out of 5 stars An Aquired Taste
When I first purchased this CD, I wasn't sure what I was going to get. The bottom line: it's an aquired taste. The beats and lyrics are very catchy and fast-paced, but the down side for me is Hayley William's voice. Some love it, others not so much. To me it sounds as though she's straining her voice to reach higher notes, and it just leaves a sort of screechy feeling...

Paramore's known for attracting a pretty young crowd, and that's understandable given how young the band itself is. But I'm a 35 year old guy who's gotten just as hooked on them as any of their teen audience. This is just some great rock music, with great hooks in almost every song and some amazing musicianship all around. Hopefully they'll continue to mature and continue to broaden their fan base as they progress.

The MVI DVD was my first Paramore purchase, and it's a great buy. I have to give special mention to the fact that there are actual mp3's on this disc for you to download to your PC - no DRM involved. That's gotta be something pretty new for Warner Music (the band is signed to Fueled by Ramen, but Warner apparently handles the distribution), and I hope that they continue doing it and that more labels follow suit. There are a ton of other great extras on the DVD, including live and promotional videos (the two things I cared about most) as well as other stuff I was less interested in like wallpapers, AIM icons, and screensavers. It also includes the lyrics to all of the songs on the album, which is a good thing in this case - the printed liner notes are written in a style that's pretty hard to read.

Just to be clear about what this comes with, since I think the Amazon page is a little confusing, this package comes with both a DVD and a regular audio CD that includes the full album plus bonus tracks. (Amazon shows "disc 2" above as only including the bonus tracks, which is not the case. It's the full album.) In other words, *both discs* have the full album - the only difference is the format. And of course the DVD has all the extras.

I was worried initially that there was going to be some sort of surreptitious installation of various tracking programs installed when I put this DVD into my computer - you know, like the major labels usually do these days. I'm still not 100% convinced that isn't the case, but I will say that their terms of use and privacy policies seem adamant that there is nothing of the sort, and it seems that the entire DVD interface is just a Macromedia Flash file - it's like viewing a Flash web site. You can also just watch it as a standard DVD if you like. The way their terms of use is worded makes it sound like they know about all the stuff that went on with the Sony rootkit fiasco and they don't want anyone to think that's going to happen with this DVD. I certainly hope that's the case, as I've now watched it on my PC probably half a dozen times already.

There's really no reason to buy the standard CD over the MVI DVD given all it comes with. You're really just getting a lot more with this package for only a couple bucks extra. It's totally worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars From A Guy Who Doesn't Like Much "Girl Rock", March 20, 2008
By
This review is from: Riot (Audio CD)
Yes, there are very few Chick Singer bands that I enjoy, probably because it feels weird to sing along with them. No Doubt was great back in the day. Evanescence and Flyleaf have done well for themselves. I was a big Hole and The Muffs fan for about one album and even Babes In Toyland. And Superchick and BarlowGirl have there moments. But in the world of rock, it is a man's world...until Hayley Williams has come and shown that she is the real deal. Paramore's Riot is exciting, and although it is not necessarily original in the sound, it is somehow fresh. From the beginning guitar in "For A Pessimist..." I was hooked. This album is catchy, exploding with bursts of pop-punk energy. Of course, "Misery Business" is an awesome song, but there are many other great songs on this album. I find myself listening all the way through without skipping, and yep, I am singing along all the way!

4.0 out of 5 stars RIOT!, June 12, 2007
This review is from: Riot (Audio CD)
Note: I give this 3.5 stars.

The boys want to marry her, & the girls want to be her. Hayley Williams, and the darlings from Franklin, Tennessee are back with one of the most anticipated releases of the year, "Riot!".

These guys popped out of nowhere in 2005 to give the world a top notched produced record with "All We Know Is Falling", it sparked an ongoing debate if this band was a product of a major corporation as band. Though the band has denied the claims, it was unoften you see such a young band to come out of no where to release a near perfect release was far too perfect. I don't think anyone in the band was legal; their drummer was 14! Ever since then, they have kept growing. I loved their first record, and really was looking forward to this record, but i still havent gotten a final verdict on this record.

The growth of the band is present. The record starts off with the heart pounding "For A Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic". The guitars are at the best the band has ever been. Vocally, Hayley is stunning on the amazing, "Hallelujah", and "Let The Flames Begin". Her vocals remain solid all the way through. Lyrically, one of the most "heart on sleeve" record's i've ever heard. Hayley obviously has been doing a lot of searching and questioning in her life, and it comes through in the songs. It's common knowledge that the band are Christians, and she sings it on her sleeve. But unlike other bands that do so, they appoarch it in a manner i think the only word to decribe is it, real. She doesn't candy coat it, and talks about a lot of emotions and situations many people go through; Christian or not.

I do like the record, but i honestly feel they played it somewhat safely. The album started off very strong, but it got a weak as the album went on; almost a generic, formulae type. I was looking for a little more rawness, and the guys to have more vocal parts.

The record is catchy; too catchy to not like and i have a feeling it will eventually grow

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, December 28, 2007
This review is from: RIOT (Audio CD)
The extra CD comes with lots of features which is good. I was a bit disappointed with the videos that come with the mvi disc because I felt they were too short and that they jus wasn't enough. But the downloadable content makes up for this I guess. Although if you have downloaded content onto the mvi disc note that you wont be able to play them on a TV if you use the mvi disc as a DVD.

Overall a good product though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paramore Rocks My Face Off!!!!, January 27, 2008
By
This review is from: Riot (Audio CD)
Paramore's album RIOT!! is just amazing. I saw them live @ Warped Tour this summer in Tinley Park and they rocked my face off. Every last song on this album is awesome and the vocals of Hayley Williams are so incredibly strong. She's ignites so much emotion in every song she sings from beginning to end. My favorites are 'Crushcrushcrush','We Are Broken','When It Rains',and 'Hallelujah'. This is the best album I've heard in a long time and it gets better everytime I hear it. This band rock my face off. I Love Paramore and you will, too,if you buy this album. You won't be disappointed @ all.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Fan, December 22, 2007

I just recently seen the video for Crushcrushcrush and the song was catchy. It wasnt until today when i turned on my t.v and seen the vidoe again. This time i got to listen to the whole song and from then on i loved this song. I bought the album and i havent been able to listen to the whole thing cuase itunes and downlaoding in Iraq sucks but i did get to hear two other songs, Pressure, and Emergency. and that prompted me to buy the album.

Sorry to say i havent heard their first album. But Riot! will defeinetly be played throughout this deployment. Crush already is blasting through my barracks.

Haleys vocals are strong and her voice is beautiful. This band rocks. Those who say this isnt real music apparently does not know what music is. What is real music anyway? The songs have a message in them if you listen to it carefully. That to me is real music. This group can go far in this buisness as long as they stay true to their music and to themselves and to their fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move over No Doubt, December 29, 2007
By
This review is from: Riot (Audio CD)
Paramore is the next generation No Doubt. From Hayley's passionate vocals to the band's rockin' capabilities, this is the next hot group in rock. Each song on this CD is worth listening to, I don't skip any. My fave tracks are Misery Business and Crushcrushcrush. This CD is worth the money if you're debating this over anything else!

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best albums of the year..., June 22, 2007
This review is from: Riot! (Audio CD)
i discovered paramore last year when i saw the pressure video on fuse. i was immediatly blown away by how how young and talented they were. once i discovered that they were very close to my age i was even more amazed. soon after, i finally got their debute album all we know is falling and fell in love with it, they quickly became one of my favorite bands. now with the release of riot!, the band is even more so a favorite of mine. the opening track, "for a pessimest, i'm pretty optimistic" is a fantastic opener that i can't get out of my head. every song can be a hit. while many, may feel that this record sounds the same as many records out today, it doesn't feel that way. while many bands out there today lack meaning and heart in the music and lyrics, paramore gives you all of that and more. with the departure of their second guitarist, hunter lamb, the band sounds great as a four person band, and taylor york fills hunters shoes very nicely for the live show. i can only expect to hear more amazing songs from paramore in the future.
