5.0 out of 5 stars Burns at His Best
What a terrific concert tape! This is a seamless compilation of two concerts in the eighties in Japan (if you look closely, you can see some costume differences). It is beautifully filmed in front of high-powered audiences.

What a terrific concert tape! This is a seamless compilation of two concerts in the eighties in Japan (if you look closely, you can see some costume differences). It is beautifully filmed in front of high-powered audiences.

I liked this group's music in the eighties but didn't like their video style. I much prefer this concert footage. Unlike so many concert tapes, the cameramen don't try to stick the camera in the performers' throats, there is a good deal of footage of the whole stage. And with good reason: besides Pete Burns prancing all over the stage, the go-go boys in their bare-buns g-strings are an exhibition of their own!

All of the popular D/A songs are performed here, very well, and moving smoothly from one to another. Again, whoever did the editing for this footage is a master.

This is not only fun to watch and own, but will be of value in the future for documentation of eighties rock/pop.

Pete Burns is really great in this particular concert filmed in Japan!! If only it was available on DVD!! I am not a big fan of Live concerts and would much rather see videos but this is all that they have to offer for this band so it is a must have for the Dead Or Alive fan! Pete Camps it up good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's Rip It Up ..... LIVE!, March 11, 2003

Dead Or Alive's concert from Tokyo is the best live performance I have seen from the band! I have been a fan for 5 yrs, and I wanted to see there later stuff before I became a fan!

The concert starts off with one of there best songs (at least I think so) "Hooked On Love". The band connects all their song from their CD "Rip It Up" and makes it a non-stop gender-bending show! The sing alot of their hit such as "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record), My Heart Goes Bang, Something In My House, and Brand New Lover"!

If you are a fan of DOA, or a fan of 80's music, I recommend you buy this video. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Video For Pete Burns Fans, January 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Rip It Up Live [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is an excellent video for fans of the 1980's dance group, Dead or Alive. The boys are sexy, the fans are insane, and Pete Burns only stops short of actually having sex with his dancing sidekicks. Of course the music is excellent, but for fans of the Divine Androgine, this is a visual masterpiece.

3.0 out of 5 stars Outrageous for a number of reasons, August 29, 2007

How to describe this? It is a concert video of a concert that's not really a concert; only a few of the instruments are actually being played at any given time, and the singer is not actually singing. There are backup singers that are not really singing anything either. What they really are is male strippers, and they're definitely not pretending to do that; they are in g-strings by the end of the performance. The dancers also pretend to play guitar at different times; so does the keyboard player. None of them are really playing guitar. Still with me?

There are a lot of costume changes, it's filmed before a live audience, and the backing track is a megamix of Dead Or Alive's greatest hits (up until 1987). But what I love the most about this video is when the costumes change WITHIN THE SAME SONG. It was filmed on two nights in Japan, and since the backing track is the same for each concert, they are able to cut back and forth and not a beat is lost. There is a lot of campy choreography; any weight that Dead Or Alive's music may have had to you will probably be gone by the end of the video.

But maybe that's a moot point. What exactly would you expect from a Dead Or Alive concert? Their music is created for the dance floor, and live musicianship is really beside the point. Burns is always intriguing, very visual and he has a large stage presence, even while lip-syncing. They're not giving you a real live concert, but they certainly do give you a spectacle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost as close to a live performance as you can get, October 22, 2001
This review is from: Rip It Up Live [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I loved this music in the 80's and I still love it today. The only problem with this video is that they over dubbed the music onto the images on the video.

After the video was over, I was very satisfied with it. I am sure that they meant well but it turned out poorly. The only reason I would give this 4 stars is that the music is good and so are the performers.

If I were to rate the video itself I would rate it maybe--maybe 2 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Awesome, April 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rip It Up Live [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is the best music video I've ever seen. It is a constant high-energy scene that carries you away. This video provides views from two concerts that Dead or Alive performed in Japan. The splicing of the two concerts is seamless. Dead or Alive is known for high-energy dance music and it really shines through in this video. If you are a Dead or Alive fan, this video is a must-have. If your not a fan, you will be after you see this video.
