4.0 out of 5 stars good deal for the money, December 20, 2006

I bought this for my toddler to watch on a long multi-leg plane ride. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is it is hard to figure out how set the timer and record programs. The battery life is excellent, the picture is fine and if you fill it up with blues clues and elmo, it keeps a toddler's attention! The sound quality isn't great but I wasn't expecting it to be. The actual device itself doesn't look very durable so I wouldn't throw it around. It does have a keypad lock and easy to navigate menu. I paid $48 for this from another giant retailer and another $25 for a 1gb SD card so it will hold about 6 or so hours of video (maybe more) and the battery lasted more the double what it says it will. For that price, it was a fantastic purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, January 6, 2007

I bought each of my teens one for Christmas, and all of their friends want to know where they got them! My daughter put movies on hers. My son put videos from the internet on his. They are durable, portable, easy to use, and worth every penny! I bought them from another store and they were listed as a toy. In my opinion, these are more like DVRs. The conversion software for the computer is included and is very easy to use. It has approximately 2 hours of memory already built in, but the memory may be increased with an optional memory card. The battery lasts for a very long time. The screen is 2.5", the same size as a video ipod. It comes with headphones, but also has built in speakers. The picture is excellent. The sound is ok. It has a lock switch on it to lock all the key functions. The menu is easy to navigate. We have not tried to record any tv programs yet. We like this product and many friends and family are scrambling to find one for themselves!

I have purchased Riproar as a PVR. It is OK to record shows but sometimes it will not record and it tells me memory is full but it is not. Also my TV needs 3 digit channel changing code this thing only sends 2 digits if only 2 are required. For example to enter channel 25 you have to enter 025 on my TV but this thing only sends 25 and there is no way to change this. Also it comes with only one video audio cable so you can only get the signal in but not out. Riproar is OK for a toy but if you want to use it to record a scheduled TV show it is not that good. If you want to have PVR buy something else.
