Don't let the size fool you, the RipFlash PRO-2 combines the most advanced digital audio technology in an elegantly designed form factor that is not much larger than a half-inch stack of business cards. This product is truly "pocket size" and it's rechargeable.

The RipFlash PRO-2 combines a fully featured 256 MB MP3/WMA Player with the ability to directly record to the MP3 file format from any audio source using the line-in connector or internal microphone. There is no PC required to take advantage of all these great features. With 256 MB, the PRO-2 is equipped with enough memory for about 4 hours of MP3 or 8 hours of WMA playback capability.

It also has a digital FM radio receiver with a direct record feature so you can even save your radio broadcasts. The RipFlash PRO-2 doubles as an advanced digital voice recorder with features like internal microphone and speaker, voice activation detection, multi-speed playback, and a whopping 110-hour record time capability for voice quality recordings.

The controls take a lot of getting used to -- they are very, very tricky to operate. But, the unit works. The software installed without a hitch on Windows 2000. The FM radio has very limited reception. I can pickup the major radio stations in Manhattan, but once in New Jersey, they are very staticky. The built-in microphone worked surprisingly well and I was genuinely impressed with the conversations I recorded. The built-in speaker is quiet, but clear. The user manual is a joke -- the broken English is painful to read.

This has to be one of the best products I have ever purchased. First thing you'll notice is how tiny it is. Even more amazing is all the features they managed to pack in it. Also have a very nice look to it. None of that cheap plastic stuff. Sound quality is excellent. FM reception is excellent. The controls are easy to use and the bundled software is very easy and effective. This is just simply a great product. Highly recommended.

I bought the RipFlash Pro 256 and have had nothing but problems. The first one locked up after about 10 minutes of use. After pushing the little reset button in back, it would play for a few seconds if I was lucky. I sent it back (at my expense) and received a new one a few days later. This second one lasted for almost an hour of use before freezing.
Pogo would not replace the unit unless I paid for shipping (for a third time) to ship it back to them. Pogo claims that there are very few defective units - my two in a row were "probably dropped during shipment". Talking to Pogo is like talking to a brick wall. It's too bad, since the RipFlash Pro has a lot going for it in terms of features.
Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Pogo and the RipFlash Pro 256.
