Editorial Reviews

Product Description
A fearless verbal and visual tour of menopause that’s equal parts Vagina Monologues and Bridget Jones's Diary, this book candidly explores a subject that is still largely taboo, confronting head-on the fact that women "of a certain age" feel discarded and undervalued merely because they have entered the next normal stages of life — peri-menopause, menopause, and all that lies beyond. The authors don’t whine, blame, or gloss over the facts, instead talking with other women, like themselves, with warmth and wit. Unlike many books in this category, Ripe is not a compendium of clinical information. Quotes, quizzes, a menu of symptoms and therapies, mock-screenplay excerpts, recipes, illustrations, photographs, and found material are woven throughout to reveal the myriad ways of looking at and understanding society’s — and more importantly, women’s — feelings about aging and maturing. Ripe makes it clear that this phase of life is rich in often underappreciated beauty that is much more than skin deep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ripe: being at the peak of perfection, September 18, 2005
I received my copy of Ripe yesterday and immediately sat down to savor it. This book made me smile over and over and nod in agreement and sometimes fog up a little, as one does in the poignant autumn season. Several times I had to stop and just let it soak in while a part of me was critically evaluating the design and layout, all of which is incredibly apt, amusing and sometimes beautiful.

This a wonderful book that I can hardly wait to give to my daughter and daughters-in-law when they're a certain age!

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll enjoy this book, October 18, 2005

I loved "Ripe" and I bought 5 copies for my friends. It makes menopause and getting older very accessible and the layout is pleasantly different from any other book on this subject. You'll enjoy it!

This book speaks from the heart. It gives voice to women in a way that no other book about "the change" has done. It reads like poetry and looks like an art book--and then surprise, surprise it gives you concrete places to go to learn more. What a joy. Aging never felt so good.
