Enthralling,
By
This review is from: Ripper Grimm (Paperback)
N. Paul Williams brilliantly weaves the tale of when the things we play with, start to play us instead. I picked up this book not sure what to expect. But with creepy realism, an intriguing plot, and strong characters I was quickly sucked in. For a seemingly large book it is a faster read then it first appears, and worth every minute. I would highly recommend this book for something to ponder, or when you just want an enthralling story to curl up with.

Very well written and very well researched and thought out. I am impressed and I hope more horror from this author is on it's way soon.

Don't let the size of the book intimidate you,
By R L Nelson (Aurora, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ripper Grimm (Paperback)
While their are a few editorial gaffs and one or two "Huh???" moments, Ripper Grimm is a compelling, quick, entertaining, and thought-provoking read. Williams' writing is fast but deep. You will get caught up in the story of witchcraft vs. demonic forces vs. Christianity and likely have a good time doing it. No matter your personal theological/religious bent, Ripper Grimm is a great read. The action ebbs and flows appropriately; the dialogue is genuine; his take on the vampire myth is original; and the vampire puppet and all characters that matter are well fleshed out. If it weren't for the aforementioned gaffs, it would be hard to believe that this book comes from a first-time novelist!
I say again, no matter your bent, read this story with an open mind and ask yourself the question Williams seems to be posing: "Is my life view and how I'm living it really working for me?" Whether Pagan, Wiccan, Buddhist, or Christian, that question is worth asking and Nathan asks it well in Ripper Grimm. And read it even if you don't want to ask the question of yourself because it is simply a extremely well told story!

Ripper Grimm,

A villain who will not die, innocents who are more than willing to become his vassals, a general public that is clueless regarding his evil power, and only a select few willing to risk all to stop him. Make sure you have plenty of free time, as you won't want to stop reading once the evil ensnares you. A great read! - TDT

Incredibly Fresh and Captivating,
This review is from: Ripper Grimm (Paperback)
"Step into my parlor said the spider to the fly" And you will step in of your own free will and be held by the glowing red eyes of Ripper Grimm. A puppet with a life of his own and a crew that looses theirs. N. Paul Williams as crafted a tale that is best read in the dark burred under blankets well into the night.

Compelling Premise... Story Lacking....,
By C. Fishback "Published Author" (Morrison, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ripper Grimm (Paperback)
I'll give this two stars because the cover and the premise of the book are excellent. The story, however, is lacking depth, emotion, and does nothing to pull the character in.
I confess, I did not finish the book. And here's the reasons: 1. The characters are 2-dimensional - I couldn't care less about these characters. They are shallow and have zero depth. Because of this, I had no problem putting the book down. It took a matter of moments to forget the characters, and a few more to forget the story. 2. The pacing is slow - the story loses its hold on the reader because it is so slow. I could skip chapters ahead and still know what is going on because nothing has happened. 3. Repeat situations get boring - Ripper Grimm's "attacks" are all the same and it takes the main characters too long to realize that what happened to the main girl is really happening. 4. The author's note about religion at the beginning of the book - While I'm not a non-religious type, I don't want someone to stuff their religion down my throat, especially when I paid good money to read a book about a vampire puppet cursed by an ordinary college girl. I think Williams should think twice before having that note in future editions of this book. Being a writer myself, I feel that my above review is valid. I apologize if I have offended anyone, especially the author, whom I met in person at his book signing. The "problem" with self-publishing and print on demand companies are that they allow anyone to publish whatever drivel they want without extensive editing to make sure the final product shines. Williams is a wonderful person and has fantastic ideas, and I applaud him for realizing his dream as a writer, self-publishing his book, and marketing the hell out of it. However, he would do well to have an editor look at his work before he has it printed and for sale. |
