Riptopia........Great Value,

This review is from: Riptopia CD-Ripping Service for iPod and MP3 Player Loading (200 CDs to Digital Music) (Electronics)
I purchased the 200 CD Riptopia package from Amazon.com. A very sturdy box, with spindled plastic cases to hold the cd's and padding for the cases was also shipped. A prepaid label with instructions also was in the box. After pulling my cd's from all over the house, I realized I had 875 cd's I wanted ripped. I called Riptopia direct with the toll-free phone number that was included in the box. They sent me a bigger box with spindles, etc, for all of these cd's. They told me that the existing prepaid shipping label would work. They also had a couple of other services that was not mentioned in the Amazon listing. For $20 each, you could send your Ipod in, and they would load all of your songs for you. This would save you loading them yourself from the hi-density dvd's that they send back to you. Another service is they will sell you a pre-loaded with your songs, Ipod to you. I sent with my cd's 2 Ipods and bought one new classic 120gb Ipod. The price was about the same as you would pay elsewhere. Maybe a little bit more than Amazon.com
It took about 3 weeks to get my stuff back. UPS sent my package to some distant site, where it stayed in a warehouse for a week. This was no fault of Riptopia, as my UPS tracking showed what happened. By the way, Riptoia includes insurance with the prepaid label. Everything came back in a very padded box. I was a little disappointed to find my cd's were not sent back in the nice padded spindle cases. They were sent back in shrink wrap, but very protected with foam padding. They sent 14 hi-density dvd's holding the music, and 3 Ipods all loaded with 10,413 songs each with the Coverflow art included on the Ipod. I was very happy with all that music ready to play , right out of the box. Why only a 4 star rating? 3 reasons. First-a couple of the cd's didn't get totalling loaded on the Ipod and wasn't on the hi-density dvd also. Several songs on a Carole King and a Moody Blues album were incomplete. I haven't made the time to call them about this, but I will. Second- some of the Coverflow art didn't show on some of the albums. a gray generic cover shows instead. I was pleased that some really obscure compilation album's Coverflow art did get loaded. Third-On some compilation albums, the individual artist is not named. Instead, various artist is listed as the artist. Overall, I am really satisfied with this service. They saved me many hours, that I used for other things than ripping cd's. I wished thry did record albums. I have recently gone on a cd buying spree, so I will be buying another package. And one last thing, Amazon has lowered the price on the Riptopia service from when I purchased it. UPDATE!!!! Since writing this review, I contacted Riptopia by phone. I asked about the 3 areas I was disappointed in. First-the missing songs. On each dvd they have a file listing problems with individual cd's. Like a scratched cd will not allow the cd to be copied properly. Second -missing Coverflow art on some cd's. Riptopia has a premium service that will find the missing art, which involves a manual approach to get this art. Again most of the Coverflow art showed. Third-missing names of artists on compilation albums. Their premium aervice will find those names. *******************Review changed to 5 stars*********************** Hope this helps.

Any service that inspires 5 people who have never reviewed anything else on Amazon to write a review that sounds just like a marketing pitch must be fantastic!

Time is Money, and Riptopia saved mine,
This review is from: Riptopia CD-Ripping Service for iPod and MP3 Player Loading (200 CDs to Digital Music) (Electronics)
I had 500 of my CDs professionally processed by Riptopia. Just for fun, I decided to calculate how much it would have cost to 1) Re-purchase my CD collection digitally at $.99 per song, which makes no sense 2) Rip all 500 CDs myself. Assuming 10 minutes per CD times 500 discs this equates to about 83 straight hours of ripping. At my current salary that would be $4,670.00, not to mention how happy my wife is that I can spend nights and weekends with the family instead. If your time is valuable, Riptopia is a great service

As a busy mom, business owner and active community member, the joy of listening to my music (300+ cds) had all about disappeared. The thought of buying an iPod and finding time to load a CD on it here and there seemed like an impossibility as well as a waste of time. Finding Riptopia, buying my iPod from them and having them load my CDs for me, was an invaluable investment...saving time, sanity and adding music back in to my life. The entire process was easy and I received great customer service as an iPod novice. This is a fantastic service for anyone who no longer wants to be a digital dinosaur but doesn't have the time or desire to commit to a timely process. It was super when my package arrived with my fully loaded iPod and I now feel reconnected with my music that had been absent from my life for quite a long time.

Great Time Saver,
This review is from: Riptopia CD-Ripping Service for iPod and MP3 Player Loading (200 CDs to Digital Music) (Electronics)
This service is Fantastic! I sent them my ipod and all my CDs, and in three days I had ALL of my music loaded and ready to go, something I had been TRYING to find time to do for nearly a year. Having an ipod is great, but having an ipod with all of my 350 CDs ripped onto it is fantastic! I would recommend this service to anyone who doesn't have enough time. Why wait to listen to your music??

So the first time I came across Riptopia I thought, my son can do this for me, why pay. Then I thought...I have been asking him to do this for 6 months, as well as wash the car and take out the trash. Bottom line is Riptopia is not a necessity, just as getting my car washed and having someone clean my home isn't a necessity.
And after having my collection done, I realize that my son would have screwed up the information on my classical albums, so there is actually more then meets the eye to this service, and Riptopia got my iPod up and running pretty darn quick.

What would I have done without Riptopia?,

This service saved me literally hundreds of hours of mindnumbing work. I'm a big classical listener, and it's especially frustrating having to enter all those fields (composer, movement, artist, etc). Riptopia did it quickly and well. For the first time "Beethoven" always appears in my iTunes as a composer, not an artist. This used to drive me nuts. I'll be using Riptopia again in the near future.

Anyone considering this item... don't pay a company this kind of cash to rip your CDs. It might take you a couple days to copy your CDs onto your computer. Plus all they do is put it on a DVD or too... if you can't figure out how to rip your own CDs, then you won't be able to figure out how to move the music to an MP3 player. Pay the 15-year-old next door $20 to put your music on your MP3 player.

My husband gave me an iPod last year... if not for Riptopia I would have perhaps one album downloaded from iTunes on it, and it would still be sitting in a drawer collecting dust! I have a demanding preschooler, and neither the time nor the inclination to painstakingly rip five hundred CDs to my computer before transferring stuff over to my music player.
Instead, thanks to this service I've rediscovered my love of music (what? they didn't stop writing new music after I graduated from high school?), and I take my iPod everywhere with me. Oh, and we've been able to move our stacks and stacks of CDs out of the way (the attic), plus we have a handy compact backup on DVD. I'm glad we got this done, and done right!

If you have hundreds of CDs then ripping them at home will take multiple hundreds of minutes. The reviewer who said this didn't make sense obviously has not amassed much of a collection.
This service is for 200 CDs, you think I want to sit in front of a computer for 200 x 7 minutes? That's over 23 hours straight. I'd pay someone do that for me. Not all of us are penny pinching scousers. |
