I casually picked up this book as a courtesy to a woman at church who was very peppy about how much I would like it. Well, I was being polite and didn't expect much. In fact I assumed it was something that had tried to accommodate all beliefs around the world and would end up lacking in substance. But I was polite.

To my surprise and delight the book was clearly written, relevant and had much to offer to me. Now I'm the one who is peppy about it and you are wondering if you should be polite or not. I bought 2 more copies to pass on. So I guess once you get a whiff of this one you may get peppy too. Its kind of a club of people who want to live out their faith in the land of tennis shoes and lawn movers. It is more than a pep talk or a lecture series. It feels like an invitation from God to walk into the deeper water knowing that your floaties and inflatable duck are enough to keep you safe. Here is where you learn to kick and trust enough to put your head in the water. It is an invitation to mindfulness and an examined life. Well done. and thanks to the peppy lady.

This book is life changing...or I should say the processes that you learn to incorporate into your daily life, this is what is life changing. I HIGHLY recommend reading it, and if you ever get a chance to take a Rise Above It course with the authors, Ray and Star Silverman, jump at that chance. Wonderful!!

I wish I had known about this book years ago. In addition to the teachings in down-to-earth language of each of the Ten Commandments, the examples of how to absorb and apply this into our daily life, are so moving, and eye-opening, I keep going back to review and constantly learn more about how to RISE ABOVE IT, when something causes doubts, grief, or troubling thoughts. Life presents us all with things we must RISE ABOVE. This beautiful, positive road map shows us the way up, no matter how far down we feel.
