5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Debut, June 29, 2008
By K. Prior (CT, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Anew Revolution formed in 2005 with singer/guitarist Joey Duenas of Unloco, and rhythm section Frankie Salvaggio and Rob Urbani of Slaves on Dope. They independently released a 5 track EP in 2005, and then signed a record deal with Koch, releasing their debut album "Rise" in 2008.

Rise starts off at a blistering pace with the first single "Done" and "NME" with hard, driving rhythms and vocals reminiscent of the late Dave Williams (Drowning Pool). Joey Duenas doesn't stay in William's shadow long however, showing off his unique voice as the songs range from the heavy, anthemic "Rise" and "California Burning," to the soft, heartfelt "Let Go." Guitarist Shaun Stockton also shows off his ability with flowing solos in "Done" and California Burning." Rise isn't flawless, but Anew Revolution have created a very solid hard rock record, and they show potential to become a hard rock mainstay for the years to come. They just wrapped a tour with Sevendust, and will be opening for Dope & Kittie this summer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sick of Emo, Pop-rock and Metalcore? Try This, March 22, 2009
By RaisedOnSpitalfield "Exit 27 is for lovers" ((South) Medford, Oregon 5-4-1) - See all my reviews
There was a time when genres like emo and metalcore, and even pop-rock, turned out some great talent. I have favorite bands in all three of the above mentioned genres, but unfortunatly, things haven't been all that great in any of them recently. All have been churning out talentless clones like there's no tomorrow, and it's unfortunate because people who come new to the rock genre honestly think that Fall Out Boy, Nickelback and Rise Records clones are at the forefront.

Thankfully, though, a band like Anew Revolution comes along every now and again and shakes things up.

The best way to describe the sound here is a mix between Unloco, Sevendust and Chevelle, with just a slightly speedier tempo. So you could call it nu-metal, but it's actually a lot closer to alternative metal. There's no unnecessary growling or breakdown fillers like in metalcore, and the musicianship is more refined than what a Nickelback or a Three Days Grace would offer. The band finds a happy medium between heavy and melodic, without moving in either direction, and the songs enjoy a real accessiblity as well.

Fans of Unloco (Becoming I) shouldn't even think twice about purchasing this. The rest of you should download "Done" and then ask yourselves where the REAL rock's been hiding. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars about time, April 16, 2008
By robert richards (sterling heights, michigan United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
i was a huge fan of unloco, and when they broke up i was frowning for weeks. then i found out about a new revolution and i looked them up on myspace. the songs were great and i couldnt wait for the cd. now that ive listened to it, i cant stop. joeys voice is amazing and gruffer than when he was in unloco. the songs r heavier for the most part and faster. there r a few ballads which r great and well written. definately going to recommend this cd to everyone
