Where to start? Samantha James is new to me, I just discovered her via last.fm. Within 3 minutes into "rise" (the title track) I knew I was in love with her music. I was buying this album just a minute later. I have zero regrets about doing so.

Samantha's absolutely angelic voice is backed perfectly by smooth jazzy house grooves. Most albums have "filler" material, songs that are just there to take up time. Not this one. Each and every song is worth cranking up.

Rise has made it into my top 5 albums of all time.

After previewing the first track, I knew I would be buying this; it's the best $10 I spent in a long time. Samantha James has amazing vocals and the music is simply very enjoyable to listen to. All of the tracks are unique and have their own personality. "Rise" is the most popular track, or at least the one James is known most for. My personal favorite is "Send It Out To The Universe" because it has such a nice sound.

Electronica chanteuse Samantha James is known for her hypnotic, easy on the ears blend of house, soul, and pop music, but what does she sound like with a stripped down, more organic backing? Even more heavenly than usual! Released in the summer of 2009, Rise (Acoustic Sessions) strips down four of Samantha's songs from her debut Rise and showcase the purity of her honey sweet soprano.

The re-recorded version of Rise is every much the feel good inspirational anthem of the original with its light guitar strums and Samantha's enchanting vocals calling the listener to fly above life's troubles while the floaty backup weaves in and out. Come Through features more excellent guitar work along with some nice drums that add depth without being too heavy on the ears and Samantha singing softly as if she's sitting beside a fire. Angel Love trades in the original's bubbly, early Madonna inspired background for an equally enthralling acoustic setting that's just as much fun to sing along too. The new version of Rain is more beautiful than the original and that's saying something! This time a serene piano backs Samantha as she sings about a lover who she might never see again, but will always be in her heart. Soothing, poetic, and completely out of this world fantastic!

Where the influence of Sade and Tracey Thorn (of Everything But the Girl) was evident on the regular version of her debut, this acoustic set channels Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon and shows off just how versatile Samantha's voice is. She can sing anything and sell it because the emotion is there and it's electric. Another reason why this young lady should be a star. Check it out.
