5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by David Daigle
I loved the first book in this series and now the second volume is every bit as good. Now to wait as patiently as I can for the next one. Reading this story was just plain fun. Drama, action and lots of humor, it was hard to put down. I like to read books a chapter or two every evening and then mull the story over until the next night. That was very hard to do with this...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure Fantasy, September 3, 2009
This review is from: Rise of the Dark Queen: The Frontmire Histories - Book II (Paperback)
In the second installment of the Frontmire Histories, Rise of the Dark Queen, David Daigle takes readers on a truly magical journey. Rise of the Dark Queen is a classic tale of good versus evil told through two paralleling stories, Jerhad's and Andreanna's.

The Black Mage, Daektoch, is back at work trying to destroy everything magical. He has his sights set on ending the Faeries, killing Jerhad and his mate Andreanna, ridding the world of all magic that isn't his. He has taken control of the Trolls to do his bidding.

Morlah, the ancient Druid, once again gives Jerhad, the Prince of Elves, an errand to perform. Jerhad, still coming into his magic, reluctantly accepts the challenge. He enlists his human friend Stanton to help create an Elfin Army. Jerhad gladly accepts help from not only the dwarves but the giants as well to help defend Mildra.

While Jerhad prepares to battle the Trolls, Andreanna is fighting her own battle. She has been charged by the faerie Nan, to awaken her own magic. Andreanna journeys to the Mystic Mountains to seek out the faeries. Along the way she meets Fonta, a gnome, Baby, a she-wolf and SixFists, a dwarf. She learns that just as she needs the faeries' help, they need hers as well.

Daigle is able to draw his readers into his fantasy through his vivid descriptions and language. At first, the "language barrier" is quite bothersome even with the help of the included glossary. However, as you become immersed in the story, especially Andreanna's, you no longer notice the language difference.

I have not read the first book in the series, and am not normally a reader of the pure fantasy genre; however, after reading Rise of the Dark Queen, I find myself anxiously waiting to be transported back to Frontmire again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let the battles of Frontmire and magic begin..., September 2, 2009
This is book titled "Rise of the Dark Queen" and is a sequel to Prince of the Elves by David E. Daigle. Well, he has produced another book that you won't put down, until the end. This fantasy takes place in the land and Kingdom of Frontmire. The war is between Daektoch and Andreanna; good and evil, so pick your sides now because there's more to come.

What types of characters would you imagine to be in a fantasy forest? Giants, trolls, dwarfs, and wolves - of course! You're imagination will be delighted and heighten all the way through the story. You won't get lost in this book, the author has a detailed glossary of the characters and map so you know who and where you are at all times - pretty neat.

The descriptions are so vivid you'll close your eyes and think you're actually in the middle of it watching it all around you. I chose Andreanna and enjoyed reading as she went to the land of Faeries deep into the Mystic Mountains so she could learn how to use her magic. Then there are the battles!! What a fun book. You'll enjoy reading this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy Fans Look Here, August 5, 2009

Are you a fantasy seeker? I know I love to read fantasy books and this book did not disappoint me. David E Daigle is a fantastic writer, with a real skill for weaving an enchanting tale. I had trouble putting this book down. Before I tell more about this novel, I want to reassure anyone who is skeptical about reading this book because they didn't read the previous book in the series, that it is not necessary. I did not read the previous book, Prince of Elves, yet, I had no trouble following and enjoying the story.

David E. Daigle brings the reader into the story by using language from the time. At first, this is a bit hard to follow but don't worry, he includes an extensive glossary at the start of the book to help you translate. Before you know it, you will be following along feeling like you are living in the land of Frontmire. The story is based on Andreanna, who becomes the Dark Queen and Daektoch her nemesis. You will be absorbed into the plot of magic, mystery and darkness. For an enticing read, pick up this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Magic and Fantasy, August 3, 2009
This review is from: Rise of the Dark Queen: The Frontmire Histories - Book II (Paperback)
The "Rise of the Dark Queen" is a fantasy fiction with 2 strong plots running side by side. You are thrown into the world of humans, elves, fairies, dwarfs, wizards, giants, sea monster, and trolls. Evil rises and the elves with their magic are able to maintain the equilibrium and keep the order. The story starts at a slow pace until we follow the course of Andreanna on her journey.

The plot tracing the transformation of Andreanna to become the Dark Queen is the more interesting plot amidst the constant wars waged by the trolls under the evil control of the dark wizard, Daektoch against the leadership of Jerhad, the elf king. There is no final face to face confrontation between the Dark Queen and the evil wizard. The dark wizard's presence is felt indirectly by his control of the trolls rather than his domineering the pages of the story.

Though the glossary provides the explanation for terms used for the passing of time and distance, it is cumbersome to have to refer to the glossary to comprehend especially the passing of time and distance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy, Elves, Cave Trolls and More, August 3, 2009
By
This review is from: Rise of the Dark Queen: The Frontmire Histories - Book II (Paperback)
The "Rise of the Dark Queen: The Frontmire Histories - Book II" by David E. Daigle is a well written fantasy book. The language is from a period long ago and sometimes hard to read as it is not the way we talk today. However, there is a very extensive Glossary at the beginning that gives you definitions of the terms used as well as explanation of the characters. David Daigle does a great job using the language to give you a feel of what it was like in that time period. If this is the first book in this series that you read, it will take a while to read if you want to go back to the glossary for references. Even though this is the second book it is easy to follow and is a story in itself. It will probably be quicker reading if you read the first book in the series and then this book. You would then be used to the style of writing and the characters.

There are Elves, Trolls, Gnomes, Druids, Drawfs, a Wizard and more. Andreanna, a human, travels through this kingdom and encounters many trolls, elves, gnomes and other characters. There is always a bad guy and in this book it is no different. Daektoch, Mage of the dark arts is trying to take over the kingdom of Frontmire. There are so many characters it is hard to give a full review of the book. If you like these kinds of stories read it for yourself. I think you will be pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Escape From the Ordinary, July 31, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Rise of the Dark Queen: The Frontmire Histories - Book II (Paperback)
An adventure into a land a magic, mystery, elves, and queens, "Rise of the Dark Queen" is the perfect escape from any ordinary day. Book two in a trilogy (currently), I was not fortunate enough to read the book prior to this in the series; however I was able to follow the story just fine. Author David E. Diagle places many helpful aids at the beginning of the novel, as opposed to the end which is preferred by many, allowing for early exposure to terms, measures, and languages later encountered. The overall arrangement brought to mind the classics, specifically "The Lord of the Rings", as does the intensely detailed world created within these pages. A great read for any fantasy fiction fan, you definitely won't regret picking up this diamond in the rough. Alas, I must bid thee adieu as I seek out book one! Happy reading...

In this second visit to the land of Frontmire, we are taken along on Daektoch's quest to take over the Kingdom of Frontmire. During his journey, he places a curse on a girl named Andreanna, unwittingly creating the only person that can stand in his way. Andreanna is no normal human as he thought; she is actually a descendent of the Elven people. With the Elven magic and Daektoch's curse she becomes powerful enough to thwart his evil plan. The battle between Andreanna, with the help of the Elves and Daektoch, whit his Cave Trolls is one that you are not soon to forget.

This is one of the best fantasy books I have read in a long time. I found this book to be very entertaining. I didn't read the first book in the series but I was able to easily follow this story. I look forward to reading more adventures from the Kingdom Frontmire.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Fantasy Adventure Amongst the Trolls!, July 26, 2009
This review is from: Rise of the Dark Queen: The Frontmire Histories - Book II (Paperback)
First off, I would like to say that this is a wonderful sequel to "Prince of the Elves". This fantasy saga takes place in the land of Frontmire, a peninsula on the continent of Canterhort. I assure you that the "Rise of the Dark Queen" is a stand alone novel and you will be able to enjoy it without having read the first book in the series. Having said that, I believe that it would enhance a persons enjoyment if they were to acclimatize themselves to this land of enchantment by reading Prince of the Elves. There are so many wonderful and not so wonderful characters that roam this land. You will meet elves, gnomes, giants, druids, humans, trolls, and many more that stem from the imagination of David E Daigle. The more you get to know them, the more enjoyable this tale will be.

Book II of the Histories centers on Andreanna, a human with lineage to the elves. She is being tormented by Daektoch, Mage of the dark arts. It is his goal to take over and control the kingdom of Frontmire. Some of the characters Andreanna will encounter in her travels are a giant dwarf, someone who appears to be a man in control of a pack of wolves, and a group of gnomes who feel she is prophesied to be their queen. Their are more books planned for this series and for that we can be thankful.
