The Future Is Right Here ...,
By Hank Stoner (Palmer Divide) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rise (Audio CD)
The Future Is Right Here... This is where Eddie is taking the blues. Vocally this cd is not great, but if you're looking for a guitar player who doesn't sound like anybody else, then you've found it right here. If the title track "Rise" doesn't move you then you're already dead. His band is first rate and includes Kenny Passarelli (ex-Joe Walsh/Elton John/Hall&Oates/etc) and David Givens (ex-Zephyr/4-Nikators). If you're still not sure about it, then go to Eddies website http://www.eddieturnermusic.com/ and listen to or download his set from the 2005 Telluride Blues Festival for free, then make up your own mind.

The BLUES purists might object to this as EDDIE stays miles away from the usual retreaded blues riffs, and so be it. But if you like your musik with a lot more edge and totaly original, than this is a no brainer. It took me a couple of listens to really get into this, but it was well worth the effort. Stunning guitar playing that always retains the TURNER stamp and songs that borrow from no ones song book. EDDIE's vocals are also OK and he never goes beyond what is possible. His version of WIND CRIES MARY is one of the best and most original interpretations of a HENDRIX song I've got in my collection ( and I've got lots ). MCLOUGHLIN did a similar thing with the same song on a HENDRIX tribute CD, but EDDIE's is still the better version in my book. If you like the guitar and are looking for something original that has it's roots in BLUES and ROCK, than this should make you very happy. If you are looking for a traditional BLUES cd, look elsewhere, because this is anything but traditional.
