2.0 out of 5 stars David's development is not the one wanted
Everyone loved songs like "Seven Days" from Craig Daid's dabut yet im not sure that many will find his new tunes equally appealing. I didn't like the specific collaboration with Sting-frankly i dont think there's the chemistry needed between their voices . Do prefer the Sugarbabes&Sting cd-single instead .

4.0 out of 5 stars sticking to the single formula and it's still working, August 11, 2003

anyone who listens to top 40 or adult contemporary radio has at least heard part of this song, so i'm just going to get into the tracks and break down the mixes.

Rise & Fall (Radio Edit) - 4:00 - This is the one everyone's been hearing. Pretty satisfying and mellow. Sting and Craig David's voices and styles compliment each other a lot - i really didn't think that they'd come together as well as they did.

Rise & Fall (Blacksmith Hip-Hop Rub ft. Fallacy) - 3:30 - Hence the name, this one will appeal to the hip-hop crowd more than anything. It's a bit old-school (early 80s) in terms of musicality. He re-recorded this one so the vocalizing is a bit different. A little different than what blacksmith usually does. Not my cup of tea, but still a good variation on the track.

Rise & Fall (MJ Cole Remix) - 6:15 - Here's where it gets good. Craig David was known for being a two-step artist back in the day (heh!) and got complaints from his garage-focused fanbase with the release of "Slicker Than Your Average" because of it's deviance from his first album. MJ Cole has turned this slow and mellow track into a two-step rhythmic groove that's fit for any dance floor. While it's length is appropriate for club-hoppers, the casual listener might find it to get repetitive. I however, am completely satisfied. It's very reminicent of Sunship and Artful Dodger. And again, it's different (i stress MUCH MORE dancable) than what MJ Cole is usually up to.

Rise & Fall (Kings of Soul Remix) - 7:26 - You guessed it: the house track of the bunch. Really not bad to be honest - it is a bit generic, but where it really shines are the intervals between vocals. Good as a club mix, but wouldn't make the best radio edit for late-night radio dance rotation. They did a great job of doing a variation on the usual chord progressions we hear. Solid track - club-goers will approve of the Dave Morales-style groove.

There's the breakdown. "why four stars?" you ask? This should have been domestic and NOT an import. We deserve to hear this stuff in the US without having to pay an arm and a leg for four tracks. Oh well, i bought it anyway. Meh. 4 1/2 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, October 9, 2003
This review is from: Rise & Fall (Audio CD)
This cd can be described as nothing less than amazing. Sting has always been great, but when he combines his talent with Craig David, the great gets even greater. The Rise and Fall, using the same rhythm as Sting's song Shape of My Heart, is wonderfuly done meshing modern R&B with the sounds that only Sting can bring us. Getting this cd is a must.

Rise and Fall is an amazing collaboration from Craig David's second album "Slicker than your Average." Both Craig and Sting's emotion make the song what it is.

This is totally village. I mean, really, why would Sting embarass himself by appearing with this total waste of atoms.
