This is a great historical overview. I believe it has even been updated since this copy that I read, but this is a welcome tome in the history of the Maya. It was one of the first modern comprehensive histories and helped usher in the new era of Maya studies which are refreshing and reviewing all that we knew and know of this amazing civilization. Helps us all understand real origins and the true reasons for collapse, and push back against the need for aliens from outer space to explain any strange artifact unearthed by archaeologists.
