Book Description

In the streets of Chicago exists an uneasy, centuries-old truce between vampires and their distant cousins, a race of shifters called drecks. Vampire enforcement agency, All the King’s Men (AKM), is charged with maintaining the truce, but when volatile enforcer Micah Black loses his mate and falls into the biological agony that results from the broken bond, he tests the boundaries of the truce by seeking out Apostle, a leader in the dreck community. Micah wants Apostle to kill him, a request Apostle is more than happy to fulfill.

When ex-Army medic Samantha Garrett inadvertently disrupts the plot and saves Micah’s life, a chain reaction sets Micah’s heart on a collision course with Sam’s, but he will have to protect her from Apostle and her obsessive ex-husband, Steve, if they will have a chance at forever. Can Micah hold his emotions together to keep Sam alive?

5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining April 2, 2012

So I think amazon had suggested me that book and I was interested because I recognized the model on the cover (I'm an Adrei Andrei fan). I downloaded the sample and decided to read it after my next book. Accidently I "met" the author on facebook a few days later and got in a short conversation with her (she commented on a post of friend of mine). That was fun. I promised her an honest review. Here it is:

I really loved this book. It is PNR and it has traits that reminds of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. But let's face it - it is not BDB. So much said at the beginning. And that is good because these books are already getting written by Mrs. Ward. Donya Lynne creates another world - not as absolute as BDB. Her characters have different abilities. For example: Yes, we find "mating" and "bonding", but it must not be unbreakable. Some of the vampires are able to walk outside during the days (due to the fact that they have human blood, too). So - even if the book isn't as long and complex, there are different ideas already behind it, that makes me want to read more. Thus saying: My only complaint is that the book is too short. I would have loved to read more. On the other hand, the book is fast paced, you never get bored, you can read it very fluently. You just don't notice that time is running.

I don't want to tell the story here, you need to read it. I love the way both hero and heroine are described; Not just perfect but with little flaws in behavior. I especially likes Sam because she is neither the fragile beauty with a core of steel nor the kickass fighter woman(these are the stereotypes for female characters). She is a bit of both and then mostly herself - and she knows what she wants without being hardass. Nice done. And well, Micah....hm...yummy..and so conflicting... ;)

The subplots were very entertaining, too. And I'm very curious about Trace...yes, I need to know more.

The best features in the books? The dialogues. I grinned nearly the whole time, especially because they sounded so "right" and "normal". Does that make sense? They were funny, teasing and entertaining but not in an artificial way.
So the basics for more books are laid, too. I'm going to buy them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air. March 24, 2012
By Wowed1
Format:Kindle Edition
I hardly ever give a book five stars, but this was a rare story, I just couldn't put down. This author has taken a way over populated paranormal genre and brought us something different. Her characters are strong, yet troubled. You have no problem relating the their emotions and it's nice to see something where a vampire's life is not perfect. Rise of the fallen gave me what many of the mainstream authors I have loved for years have started failing to give. Where they have left me wishing for more, and leaving me feeling like there just could have been more to the book, Micah Black's story took me to the edge and dropped me over it. I wasn't left feeling cheated as I set the book down. I look forward to this authors series. If she continues with work like this, she could easily join or surpass the ranks of Ward, Kenyon, and Feehan. Well written, well thought out and a total joy to read that left me longing for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING! March 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
What to say about this book? RISE OF THE FALLEN left me breathless and begging for more. It's filled with tension, romance, conflict, and a cast of characters screaming to tell their own stories. Being a debut novel, I can not believe how well written this book is. Mark my words this is not the last of Donya Lynne or of her world known as ALL THE KING'S MEN. Bring on book 2!

It was a good read, however it seemed to lack depth. The story just didnt do the characters justice. It would have been nice to see more development in them.

More About the Author

In high school, Donya's friends voted her "Most Likely to be a Romance Novelist" when she grew up, because she filled notebook after notebook with love stories (and has the callus on her right middle finger to prove it). She always had a flair for dark fantasy and erotica, and she enjoys writing about damaged characters and controversial subject matter. Readers seem to like it, too. In 2010, Donya found herself a victim of the bad economy and lost her job. After much contemplation, she decided to take her future into her own hands and make a go at her first love, writing. Thus began a year of honing her skills and educating herself about the publishing world. Her first short story was published in the Evernight anthology, and a novella and at least four novels (three of which belong to her All the King's Men series) are planned for release in 2012.
