4.0 out of 5 stars Twice Is Nice
Beware of The Dog!!! Those who have heard HOTD's 1st album already know and expect a Rockin' experience.

Slide in the CD and right away John's heavy chords leading into "Rise" kick you in the guts. The CD's title song rips out of the speakers and let's you know these boys are serious about assaulting your senses to the breaking point.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars - Just a good, solid, fun hard rock album
2000's Rise was the second album from American hard rockers Hair of the Dog. The band enjoyed a minor wave of popularity after their self-titled debut was released, and did some touring with the likes of Ratt and Skid Row. For Rise, the band worked with famed producer Michael Wagener (Dokken, Skid Row, just about every 80's rock band worth mentioning).

Rise found the band continuing to develop their brand of post-hair metal, post-grunge hard rock. It's a melodic, accessible, and fun hard rock album, and coming at a time when angst and gloom were still very much the order of the day, that's worth celebrating. Rise is in some ways a throwback to the days of L.A. Guns, Skid Row and Motley Crue (and before that KISS and Van Halen) without resorting to sheer imitation or relying on a glam appearance. It's modern rock for the children of the 80's, and it's a lot more fun than the average Creed or Staind album. Sometimes what you need are up-tempo rock songs about partying, rocking, and partying some more, and that's what Hair of the Dog delivers with Rise. They get extra credit for their closing KISS cover "I" (from Music from "The Elder" of all albums).

Unfortunately, the band didn't stick around long. They released one additional album in 2001 (Ignite) and hasn't been heard from since. It's a shame, because the musical climate these days seems a lot more receptive to this kind of hard rock.

Need a little stress relief? Fire up "Five to Nine", this one is bound to become a party classic for years to come.

A nice catchy little ditty about men's favorite toys "Mokur Jahoobees", dares to praise the very breast of society, literally.

"You are the One" and "Rescue Me" were unexpected but maybe a sign that the band is maturing and expanding musically. A softer and more acoustic sound for HOTD but NOT mushy love songs.

A good way to think of this CD would be "If you got the beer, We got the tunes."

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Rock, Wild Fun, July 12, 2006
This review is from: Rise (Audio CD)
My favorite is "Mokar Jahoobies"...it seems to denote what this band is pretty much all about, socially. Other than that, Hair of the Dog is a Eighties Rock esque Hair Metal type band that lays it on the line, tells it like they see it, and rocks it hard. What am I kidding? No eighties hair bands ever rocked this hard. This band also compares to modern successes such as Creed, Cowboy Mouth, Buckcherry, and Monster Magnet. Another good song on this disc is "Five to Nine", "Tell the boys to kiss my #&% it's party time." They sure know how to tell life like people want it to be, wild fun.

So some of you may have only heard the single "Rise" on the radio, posers. Anyway, they have more juice where that came from.

With the radio waves filled with bubblegum pop & rap, its nice to know that Hair of the dog is out there to mess it all up.

Great album! It's about time for some good old rock-n-roll!

Even though I may be a bit bias since I know the lead singer of this awe-inspiring band, beleive it when I say this album totally rocks! I agree that in this time of mundane pop songs and cloned boy bands, it's a relief to know that "pure rock" is still alive and kickin'! Get this disc. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Rock and Roll CD, June 5, 2000

What can I say, I love this band. Hair of the Dog incorporates some of the same party aspects that you used to see in bands such as Van Halen and AC/DC. This is evident in their 2nd Release Rise. Their new CD is a little better than their first one and their first one was excellent. I highly recommend this to anyone that wants to hear a great rock and roll band. Fans of 80's rock will love this CD.
