Book Description

Craving something new and sophisticated in the paranormal genre? Rise of the Maiden - Blood and Venom series will give you a glimpse into paranormal culture not yet explored.

In the first years of the reign of Victoria, an infant girl is stolen from the dirty streets of London. For fifteen years she is held an unknowing prisoner by the captor she calls 'father'.

Emily Black is haunted by her mother's spirit and forced into drug addiction by her impostor father. The man she believes her father is a twisted soul practicing dark, occult vampire rites. Emily is his greatest treasure, and darkest magic - that is, until the day she escapes.

Based roughly on the complex secret societies that practice vampyre rites across Victorian England in the 1800’s. This is a terror more real than childhood stories. It is the Gothic paranormal story reborn!

Emily is driven into flight by her mother's haunting just before her 16th birthday. A birthday that was to be her last. Every step for Emily Black is on the broken shards of death. Her survival is based only upon her strength, intelligence and passion of her heart. Brett Cardon is the teenaged murderer she must embraced to make her escape. This boy makes her body alive, but she knows to always fear her traveling companion. The blood of the Picts still boils angry in his youthful veins.

Behind Emily and Brett a spiteful killer hunts there every step on the street of London. Marquess Alyn Black is a vampire like you’ve never experienced. Earthy, mortal and human – but with all the ritual and devotion of any vampire folklore. Discover a brand new vampire genre – a dark history that reaches back to the Strigoi of ancient Rome. Embrace genuine paranormal horror in book one of a four-part saga.

“Rise of the Maiden – Blood and Venom” is book one.

Carnal men make themselves into cold, real and terrifying vampires. And one girl was stolen as an infant and raised to serve as sacrifice in the highest ritual. Her kidnapper tormented her to the brink of insanity. Drugs, blood and murder were the reckoning of her childhood.

Fall into a tangled web of paranormal that will snatch away your breath.

A young Steven King! LOL. So happy to stumble upon his books. I will be looking for the next book in the series. He says this is a four part saga and I finished this one in a hungry rush.

Anyway Stephen Paul West has created a dynamic caste of characters with deep passions and intense energy. This book is creepy like a "Silence of the Lambs" as opposed to a fantasy vampire book. I found this even darker and more interesting because these kind of events really happen.

This is a must read for women everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!! Loved it!! March 5, 2012

Blood and Venom was a fantastic story and it really entertained me. I don't often read horror, but I bought this on a recommendation of several of my friends. I couldn't put it down. It didn't scare me like the Shining, but it was frightening in a real-world Victorian kind of a way. So, I was glad it wasn't totally scary but more like a vampire adventure.

I do like Jane Austen, The Bronte' sisters and other classic victorian books. This had a lot more attitude than those books, but it was REALLY well written - in that respect it was similar. I tried to read Twilight, but the action was too slow for me. This had a much faster pace. It did remind of some of the complexities of Ann Rice stuff, in that the details of the atmosphere felt very Regency era.

So, if you are looking for a well written historical monster fiction with deep psychological punch this is a perfect book for you. Oh, I should add that there was some mature content in this book. I don't want to give away any plot point, but the world of this book is very passionate, intense and exploratory. I liked the subtle flavors of 'human' vampire culture as opposed to a Hollywood version. Alyn Black isn't a classic vampire in the undead since, but a vision of what a real bad man would actually be like - unlimited power and a need to control.

I found the forceful nature of Emily and Brett was nicely offset, by supporting characters that added balance, hope and goodness to the world.

I really did love this book and I'm glad for the recommendations.

I bought Blood and Venom earlier today and started reading as I was getting ready for work. I was expecting a typical vampire romance kind of a thing. This is not typical. It is more about how vampire legends are born from real events.

The book romantic edge is a lot darker and more sensual than I expected at first glance. I hated to go to work that day as I wanted to stay home and read, but I brought my Kindle to work. LOL. I had a hard time putting the thing down to do my work!

First off the characters - but, especially the female teen - have a lot more depth than Bella. I liked Edward much as he was dark and mysterious, but I always found Bella as somebody who has stuff happen too her and waits for Edward to rescue her. I liked that kind of a read - but the lead girl in Blood and Venom, Emily - is much stronger and I found her also very dark and mysterious. She is young and sometimes immature, and the fact her vampire father has her addicted to opium to control her makes her dangerous and sometimes a little crazy. But even with this darkness, I found she has a bright and determined heart. So her character is a lot more apart of making stuff happen, then just waiting around for vampires to make something happen.

You would think all the story is found in the first few chapters but there are a lot of cool twists and turns. This is part of a saga of four books. I am really looking forward to reading them all.

Anyway, if you love vampire romance and stories - but want something really new and unique, I can recommend this story. But if you want to stick with the typical fangs, coffins and superhuman vampires than you might want something lighted to read than Blood and Venom.

MaelStrom To London

"Kwenda, Women Slaves of War" tells the true story of motherhood caught in the cruelty of modern warfare. This story paints a story that will touch you to the core, and you will both weep and cheer.

"Depression Symptoms Decoded" is a deep analysis of depression symptoms with a Jungian view of each symptom demonstrated: weeping, sex issues, rage, eating disorders, isolation, fatigue, confusion addiction, recurrent dreams and dark thoughts. The pioneering self-help book on depression delves deeply into the meaning of each symptom of depression as a pattern for emotional need. By decoding your type of depression symptoms you can identify a means of overcoming depression.

"Rise of the Maiden - Blood and Venom" is a new twist on the paranormal. Emily Black is a compelling and strong female character who exemplifies a Byronic role. She is every bit as intelligent, smart and dangerous as role reserved for traditionally male leading characters. The darkness of this thriller include haunting of a mother's ghost, and the insanity of a kidnapper who practices vampire occultism. This is combined with the unusual aspect of drug addiction as found in Victorian London.

The visual artwork of Stephen Paul West integrates a modern scope of artistic expression with an earthy and positive view of the world around us.

What to do when a girlfriend wants you to read - but you don't read at all?
Hah! You choose the right path if you want to keep your girlfriend! Making your girl happy is a matter of being able to do something fun. I'm glad you liked my book though - otherwise I might have gotten a 1 star! Again, thanks Brandon.
