Beautiful Kurt Nilsen Album,

Rise to the Occasion is by far my favorite Kurt Nilsen album. The songs all fit together and flow seemlessly. It's quiet, mostly acoustic, the melodies are catchy and his voice is flawless (as usual). I like his other stuff, but this is the first one I can actually call beautiful.

For anyone who is put off, as I was, by the idea of Kurt doing country, and the picture of him in a cowboy hat (which I don't happen to think is his best look), rest assured this is pure Kurt with a little pedal steel added in. If anything the songs are maybe a little more subdued and mellow than we usually get from him. The duet with Willie Nelson is very fine. Not my favorite Kurt album, but definitely an honorable addition to his oeuvre. I just don't understand why he's not a huge hit in the States.

I am new to Kurt Nilsen and was surprised that I like his country CD. He has a unique voice and richness that I like.

Kurt Nilsen has an outstanding voice! I first heard of him while watching a Youtube version of "Hallelujah" with his other Norwegian friends and wanted to hear more of his music. This CD is country music and the amazing part of this is that he wrote most of these songs - and he's from Norway!! He sounds just like someone born and raised here in the U.S.! He is great! Wish he toured the U.S. once in awhile!!

This is the album you want if you love his voice. The reason: his uber-smooth and controlled voice is featured, the way it should be, rather than competing with all that instrumental distraction. I can listen to it over and over and can't get enough of that voice. Intonation, intensity, it's all there.
I have his other albums, but this is the best. And I want to know when we'll get more...and when I can enjoy seeing him in the US (but I understand he doesn't do the US and England because we have this ridiculous, expoitive behavior evidenced by paparazzi, tabloids, litigious wackos... On second thought, excellent strategy, Kurt, I admire your motivation to stay regional and dignified.

Kurt wone in the " World Idol " contest, and I agree that he has talent. This CD shows off his singing and song writing talent very well.

I just LOVE this CD!! Being a big country music fan, I think the songs have just enough country "flavor" without being "Americanized". You can tell they are written from the heart, and, of course, "The Lost Highway" duet with Willie really showcases Kurt's voice. For those of us in the States who will not get to see Kurt in person, this is a great "must have" for any Kurt Nilsen fan.
