I wasn't too aware of this group before my roommate told me I needed to buy this CD. Boy was he right. He had seen them live in Gainsville, Fla. and loved everything he heard. I can't disagree. Normally it takes me a couple times to listen to a new CD before I can judge it, but not this one. First time I heard it, I was just amazed at the variations in the songs themselves. Some are real heavy, kick[in'], up beat rockers. Others are more mellow, thoughtful ones with lots of melody. A perfect mix. Take a chance and buy this one even if you've never heard them before. You won't regret it.

I saw them live at real rock 101.1's earthday birthday X. I was so impressed. I heard that they were doing an in-store show for their CD release. I went, and although I missed the show, I definitely picked up their CD and had them sign it. I put the CD in my car player and absolutely fell in love with it. It actually managed to replace Godsmack's Faceless as my CD of choice. Track 11, Lose Yourself, is the most incredibly sensual song. Tonz of Fun is hilarious. Rock doesn't get much better than this.

Presence,
By

It is very difficult to describe the genre of music that Presence would fit into. Rise is a cd of mostly songs remixed from older albums to fit into a rock/rap category, not to mention new songs which sound incredible. They have their own style of music with a touch of rage against the machine. Soundcheck, Hold Up, Tonz of Fun, Van Down By The River(one of my favorites), Rock is Dead, One Final Breath, The New One, and Bound to Ascend are all songs from previous Presence CD's( Divine, and When the Smoke Clears ) that have been reperformed and mixed to the point that it sounds like you are listening to it for the first time. The 4 news songs: Again and Again, Remember, Lose Yourself, and Rise are all great songs and fit the rock/rap style that it seems like Presence was trying to aim for in this album, and succeeded. If you have listened to any of the other Presence CD's, trust me you will not feel like you are listening to 8 songs you know all over again. I feel like Presence did a great job in releasing their first national debut album, and if they are able to market well enough and if their names spread fast enough via word of mouth, then we might all be hearing some of their titles on national airwaves in the near future. If you do decide to purchase the cd and enjoy it as much as I did then you will definatly need to purchase Divine and When the Smoke Clears to complete your Presence CD Collection.

Not the standard rap-metal formula,
By Rock God (USA) - See all my reviews

What sets these guys apart is their ability to rock out like i thought only Hotwire could and then bust out with a RATM-ish song but much better cause as we all know RATM was annoying as hell. Also, songs like Lose Yourself (WITH NO RAPPING AT ALL) prove these guys really have talent but that they also know how to throw down and blow 500 watts of blaring electric guitar and angst-driven lyrics through your ears. Never heard of curb records before but the production value is great so it's not a garage-made thing. GO get it.

One Word Description...... AWESOME!,
By "chizad" (Knoxville, TN USA) - See all my reviews

With a mixture of Zack de la Rocha's sound from Rage Against the Machine and an incredible singing ability, this band from Tallahassee, Florida knows how to rock the stage. I had never heard of this band until last night when they were at a concert in Knoxville, TN with DoubleDrive and Ra and they absolutly stole the show!!! This band really knows how to rock the stage! They got the crowd more involved than any band i've seen before. After the show i got to talk to the lead singer and drummer for a while and the guys are just really down to earth. If there was one cd i could recommend for someone to buy out of the 200 cd collection i have it would be Presence's "Rise" because of it's awesome style, the band member's incredible talent, and their ability to leave you singing their lyrics for hours and hours. Buy the cd NOW!

Who are these guys?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rise (Audio CD)
A friend of a friend suggested I check out this album...and boy was I surprised...I expected a half-baked retread of tired rap-rock conventions, but what I got instead was one of the tightest, grooviest, most heartfelt rock records I've heard in years. One Final Breath is the highlight of the record...its sheer emotional weight coupled with ferocious rock melody makes it an instant winner. "Remember" is a bit mellower, but my girlfriend (and I think every girl) loves it and I could hear it being a big summer radio song. Other tracks like Rock is Dead, New One and Microphone check tear the house down and build it back seamlessly. These guys don't mess around....especially on the stunner Hold Up...gotta be a great story there..."hold up a minute, don't want to jump right in it, let me soak this all in..." Perfect. I don't know who these guys are or where they came frome, but a year from now every kid is gonna know them...and every word on this fantastic album. Presence is here, now and ready to take over. Just get outta the way.

I saw this band live in W. Palm, and regardless what any of you say, ive been listening to this band since 99', they have one of the coolest sounds and put on a live show that tops just about anyone ive seen. The energy that put out is magnificant and they spread throughout the audience so F*#K ALL YOU NAYSAYERS cause this band rocks, def. anyone who listens to the incubus/311 genre this is a perfect mesh of those bands.

im pretty impressed,

i had low expectations for this cd, after reading lyrics like "super sizing your fries." i went ahead and got this cd because they are touring with sevendust (one of the greatest bands ever) and it was cheap.so "soundcheck" was pretty mediocre but "hold up" immeaditely got my attention."tonz of fun" found its place on my stereo (it was the cds first single) but "van down the river" is definitely the best song on this cd.the singer knows how to sing and yes, its is heavily laced with rap, but done quite well.if you like 311, reveille, sevendust, and taproot, you will like this cd.definitely something to build on.
