Amazing Shooter!, November 3, 2005

This game is not your ordinary Doom engine game, this is the ROTT engine! This game has 16x the amount of features that the Doom engine has! If you pick up the wrong crystal, you will go into shrooms (drunk) mode! You can also go into dog mode and bite your enemies! This game has great gameplay and many special effects! If you're bored out with the Doom engine, go for Rott!

This game, along with civilization and maybe heretic were my favorite games during the mid 90's. Of course, it can't compare to modern games of today, but it did touch me in a way that cookie cutter games of today don't. One thing I did learn from the developers is that the midi music sounds different on different revisions of this game. They sound best on 1.2 (imo)... which is not the same as that of the latest version (1.3 I think). There is a windows version port now that is free, but you still need the CD's to get the levels. I even created levels that had things I never saw in other custom levels... like spiraling stair cases... Going through these levels is like walking through a piece of art. Assuming you enjoy this type of art.

ROTT was one of Apogees follow up games to wolf 3d. it started life as an simple expansion to wolf 3d it's spec would end up being implemented in the black stone series. but when id pulled the plug the game took on a life of its own. using an wolf 3d core retrofitted to almost doom detail this game is an excellent play. the game does have e a dark humor to it. seeing that you basically kill the apogee staff who made the game. and this game introduced the game play that duke 3d would make an legend. this game includes some strange pickups like god mode where you gain an bfg type gun and dog mode where you become a invincible dog. and two power downs like shrooms mode where the game becomes unplayable and elasto mode where all friction is removed. if you buy an cd copy from here you will need dos box to play the game. if you go to apogee and buy the download copy it will come with dosbox and all of the extra levels for the game. also erott is now a free level pack on the 3dr page. I think $25 is a little high though, 3drealms is selling for less then that. Not that it isn't worth it though. This game (considering you don't flip on the god mode and fly through the levels) has hours of gameplay
