Rita Springer is one of my favorite singer and has a God given gift of leading people into worship. Her passionate lyrics and worship style make it easy to enter in. Her desire of reckless abandonment to the Lord shines through in her songs.
This album was recorded during 5 sessions of one of her "Fragrant Oil" conference in New Mexico. It captures the atmosphere of worship that her concerts and conferences cultivate. I have seen her live before and her style is very much influenced by her years with the Vineyard. My favorite song on this album is "My Hero". Rita's spontaneous songs "Come All Ye Who Are Thirsty" And "Deep Calling Deep" are also very powerful. This is a must have CD. Rita is lead by the Lord as she seeks to worship the Lord and when you are listening or worshiping with her you can't but help being brought along to the throne of grace.

Rita Springer Rise Up: Powerful,

This CD is a must-have for anyone who loves Rita Springer. I did not realize it came with 2 discs until I had been listening to the first one repeatedly for a solid month. I loved it so much I had no desire to listen to anything else. The first time I listened, I was not so impressed. It contains some tracks from some of Rita's other CDs. But the second time I listened to it, the heavens opened up and the pure love of Christ poured out. Rita Springer shares anointed worship and knows how to create an atmosphere for pure worship. Pure worship.
I did not care for the second disc as well as the first one, mainly due to one track. The screaming and prayer against "homosexuality" in Dawn Sweigart's, "Prayer for the Prodigals" simply detracts from the entire worship experience of the second disc. If you are not used to charismatic worship, it really seems over-dramatic, unnerving and out of place on a CD. I love charismatic worship (not being screamed at though), but this track seems really manipulative and bizarre when Dawn screams out and encourages thousands of women to scream out. The result is not conducive to worship, does not come across very well, and was momentarily disconcerting. There are many prodigals mentioned, but the reference to homosexuality as such was quite ... narrow-minded and distasteful. I know that many Christians believe homosexuality is a sin, but there are also countless (holy) spirit-filled, Christ-worshiping homosexuals. Not all Christians who love powerful, spirit-filled worship music are conservative, right-winged, anti-gay. I do understand that many are, and that apparently Rita Springer is, or she would not have put this track on her CD. Nonetheless, I believe the body of Christ is much bigger than many care to embrace, and than this one track represents. But, the first disc makes up for any lack in the second disc and I can only highly recommend this CD. It is my favorite CD now. |
