Rise Up & Sing by Lex Buckley,
This review is from: Rise Up and Sing: Equipping the Female Worship Leader (Paperback)
Rise Up & Sing by Lex Buckley is a great book and a fantastic resource for worship leaders. Originally I wasn't going to read this book because the subtitle is Equipping the Female Worship Leader. However I ended up deciding to read it because as a worship leader myself, I want to have the kind of ministry where I can help build up other worship leaders and I realized that that may include female worship leaders, and I hope it does. I'm very glad I decided to read this book. Even more than Lex wanting to have a resource available for equipping female worship leaders, this is a great book for worship leaders in general. She does a great job of outlining the different facets of this position and what to expect in music ministry. She also has Beth Redman, Christy Nockels and Kathryn Scott share their expertise and experience as well. Overall I believe and hope that through this book and Lex's sharing that there will be a greater movement in the church today of allowing females the opportunity to lead in worship. Having read this book, I would encourage all worship leaders and pastors, male or female, to read it. At the very least for those of us that are males, we not have a resource to help us in understanding how to encourage and build up those females that are wanting to lead our churches in worship.

I would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank you" to Lex Buckley and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Rise Up & Sing" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me."Rise Up and Sing: Equipping the Female Worship Leader" is an insightful book by Lex Buckley. It is geared toward women who intend to go into the ministry of leading worship. But it is also useful for women who serve in other ministries, leadership capacities or engage in worship. This book is thoroughly uplifting. It equips leaders and worshipers to engage those calls. There is distinct help for developing a style of communication, both verbal and non-verbal. There is also help on other aspects of leading worship such as songwriting. Although Bible passages were quoted, I would have liked to see more scripture referenced throughout the work. But this book is a critical read in the area of communication. The author has obviously dealt quite a bit in this area of ministry and has provided valuable insight and wisdom to help the reader communicate better.

The author has practical advice for women in the church who have been gifted and called to lead worship. She speaks from her own experiences. I found the book encouraging, as it helps women know how to work with and solve problems that may come up when working in an all-male environment. There was a section that was directed to Pastors who may have to work with women, which I thought was a good exhortation.

Great book for women of worship!,

I was immediately intrigued when I read the title of this book. It is definitely written with women worship leaders in mind, but it is not from a feminist's perspective at all. Lex Buckley approached worship and some of the struggles of women on the platform from a woman's perspective, and I found it to be very helpful and encouraging. I was also challenged to do better as I lead worship week after week. The only reason that I didn't give this book 5 stars is that she is a little vague at times when I found myself wishing she had gone deeper and given more examples of solutions to the challenges she writes about. Overall, though, it is a great book for any lady on your worship team, but especially those who lead. Highly recommended reading for ALL worship leaders, men and women alike!

This book is great for worship leaders to read. It gives hands on basics on how to lead a worship team including signals, instruments, and tips on figuring out what will work best for you. They teach biblical principles of what worship is and how it is incorporated into the service. It is great to have encouragement from other women who are worship leaders. If you are wanting to be a worship leader or want to know how music ministry/worship leading entails this book is for you! I highly recommend it!!
