1.0 out of 5 stars Boring! Boring! Boring!, April 21, 2011
This review is from: Rise and Walk (Paperback)
Ugh! I don't even know where to begin with this. Someone gave me a copy of this book as a gift and I couldn't get past the first chapter. First, let me say that if it wasn't for someone giving me this book as a gift, I wouldn't have bothered with picking it up. Maybe, I would have but I would have put it right back down. The silhouette of a naked man makes me think it's a romance novel but then when I see that it's a Christian based book, I take serious offense to the naked man. There is nothing Christ like about seeing a naked man other than in ones bedroom. Am I suppose to take this book to church with me? Then the title is Rise and Walk, I don't see him rising or walking but standing in front of a road naked. He's standing in the middle of the road naked. Huh? Where is the rising and walking.
Then I flip to the back of the book and see it's for men. How is the front of that cover suppose to attract a man unless he's gay. The God I serve says that homosexuality is a sin. If he is really trying to gear his book towards men, he needs to change the book cover. This is the gayest christian book cover I've ever seen.
Then I try to open up the first chapter and read it and I am immediately bored. There is nothing about that first sentence that intrigues me. I try to read the Introduction and am bored by that too. This author has a really dry writing style. An opening sentence should grab the reader but in this case, it does not. The other problem is that, this book seems to be strictly this authors opinion with him trying so very hard to interpret the bible. I got nothing of any value from the first chapter. I got the authors opinion with bible verses but that's it. The first chapter was blah, blah, blah.
This book fails miserably compared to the other great christian authors out there. I'm so glad I didn't spend my money on this book. I feel bad for my friend that did, and instead will use this book as a paperweight or donate it to my local library. Blah, blah, book!
