Book Description

A thrilling new series for Ranger's Apprentice fans!

Imagine a world ruled by Werelords--men and women who can shift at will into bears, lions, and serpents. When Drew suddenly discovers he's not only a werewolf but the long-lost heir to the murdered Wolf King's throne, he must use his wits and newfound powers to survive in a land suddenly full of enemies. Drew's the only one who can unite the kingdom in a massive uprising against its tyrant ruler, Leopold the Lion. But the king is hot on Drew's tail and won't rest until he's got the rebel wolf's head.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! May 17, 2011

I received this book from Librarything's Early Review program. I have to admit I wasn't sure if I would like it. Nothing against werewolves, but there are just so many good paranormal stories out there. In the first chapter or two things seemed to be moving so slowly, I had just about decided this was going to be one of those laborious reads. But, I was wrong. All of a sudden this story really took off and it became a real page turner.

Though the wolf takes the lead in this story, it's not just about lycanthropy. Therianthropism runs rampant in this story. The Seven Realms is inhabited by were beasts of all kinds: wolves, lions, foxes, stags, bears, rats, serpents, boars, and even sharks. I found that this made it more than just your normal run of the mill paranormal fantasy. This story has it all: a little romance, lost children, treachery, a little magic, and a little necromancy and of course, good vs. evil. Leopold, the Lion Werelord and current ruler of Lyssia, stole the throne from Wergar the Wolf King. Leopold murdered the king and all of his children - or so he thought.

Our hero, Drew, is the long lost son of the murdered king, hidden away by a loyal servant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Medieval-action-fantasy of the tallest order January 14, 2011
Format:Paperback
`Wereworld: Rise of the Wolf' is the first Young Adult paranormal book from Curtis Jobling. Jobling is already a renowned British illustrator and animator, best known for his work on the TV show `Bob the Builder'.

The Seven Realms is a mythical world where territories and borders are divided according to Lycanthropic rule. These `rulers' are not only the traditional shapeshifting Werewolves, but a plethora of were animals known as `Werelords'. There are Wererats and Werefoxes stretching from The Badlands to Omir and many lands in between.

Our hero is Drew Ferran, a simple farmer's son who is accused of a heinous crime he did not commit. Drew saw his mother murdered by a slavering beast. . . a beast he soon came to resemble. Now his father and twin brother, Trent, are on the hunt for the monster they believe Drew to be. He is forced to seek refuge in dangerous Lyssia where Drew discovers he is the last of the royal Werewolf blood line. . . and the Werelion, King Leopold, intends to make sure the blood stops with Drew.

I wasn't sure I would like this Young Adult fantasy novel. It seemed like a thorough boys book and I went into it with much (girlish) trepidation . . . but by the end of the third chapter, I was hooked.

This book kicks off with a high-octane pace and doesn't let up. I knew I was reading something special after the third chapter left me covered in goose-bumps. Jobling has a truly heinous talent for writing action and gore, and the scene in which Drew first encounters the monster that kills his mother is full of high-emotion and high-action.

Jobling's novel is medieval-action-fantasy of the tallest order. Yes, this is a bit of a boys book (light on the romance, but with many a fight scene) . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read! April 17, 2011
Format:Paperback
When I won this book from LibraryThing I did not expect that once I started reading I would not be able to stop. Do not be fooled by its unassuming cover and title, Wereworld was one of the best YA novels I have read in a long time. This book had everything that I love in an adventure with the extra bonus of werewolves. The fast paced action in the inspired world of Wereworld pared with characters that grew throughout the book brought this story to life. This is definitely one of my favorites of the year and I cannot wait until Curtis Jobling's next book!

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A new and refreshing change. Exactly what I've been looking for. Great ideas and plots. Interesting and growing characters. The various shifter animals is my favorite part. So hard to find were's other than wolves. Done well. Will defiantly read the rest of them!

3.0 out of 5 stars Wereworld: book 1 February 22, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Good storyline, a little too slow for me at the begging. I personally love werewolves and other fantasy creatures so this book caught my eye. I'm more of a fantasy romance person then action but still like it.
