My sister found this on Amazon Prime and recommended it to me and our 2 other sisters (all over 45).
While it reads 'Senior', this fitness regime is magnificent for all types of people who need to move slower, more in tune
with their 'limitations' due to injury, age, or medical condition.
None of us are 'dancers', but this is all about the stretch, the isometric movement (push/pull - opposing movement, range of motion) that is so key to a dancer's warm-up.
You come away refreshed, energized, confident - so much of what you want from a 'work out' without the pain, panting, sweat and next day inability to move.
If you just can't move fast, if you have pain from degenerating joints, arthritis?, fibromialgia? then this is all for you!
Ms. Smith is magnificent as an encouraging teacher. She points out what you need to do, watch, feel. The view is from behind her - she is conscious of that awkward feeling of 'looking' at the instructor. It's ok to move 1/4th as much as she can. You are encouraged just to learn the movement and do it everyday.
My sisters and I agree that this is even better than walking (most of us have degenerating hips), and we are seeing results in weight loss, greater movement with less pain, and clearer lungs (deep breathing in this, too).

Makes me feel very relaxed and gently stretched all over by the time I have done Ann Smith's first session of flowing dance movements just once a day. I have osteoathritis, so I was very happy to find exercises I could do that would not leave my joints sore. Ann tells you to only copy her motions at your own body's comfort level. Since I have bad knees and neck, I stayed with the exercises that were mainly upright. I modified the neck rolling exercises to slight tilts. There are no fast, bouncy exercises on Ann's dance movement sessions, just smooth motions that flow along. This video has many of her past exercise sessions on it, so you can pick the ones you like best. There is even one session that has a morning exercises of about 5-8 minutes for each day of the week; you just stop at the end of Monday's session and start where you left off for a slightly different routine on Tuesday, and so on, through each day of the week. You can add on one of the slow dancer's movement exercise session later in your day. If there is any motion that is too hard to do just modify the movement to suit your body's ability..the idea is to do a gentle, continuous series of motions.

Swimming and power-walking worked for me in the in the '70s, aerobics in the 80's and 90's, weights and swimming in the early 2000's and now after illness and a long semi-sedentary hiatus, I am SO happy to have found Ann Smith on Amazon. I have always loved ballet and am REALLY enjoying these gentle, easy workouts. You will begin to feel the effects immediatly - it's truly AMAZING how many muscles they reach. I'm feeling stronger and healthier every day.Thank you SO much Amazon and Ann Smith!

I had a life threatening illness that caused me to have 5 surgeries. Recovery from that has not been easy. I have certain issues that have affected my body. Many exercises have been painful and ended up hurting me, not helping me but these actual work. I feel good every day and my body feels like it is actually beginning to recover in a way that it never could before.

As someone who's suffered from Fibromyalgia for years, I have finally found a type of exercise that I can dowithout passion.I used to be able to take yoga classes, but my teacher moved out of town and I never found another that I liked enough to go through the pain & extra energy it takes me to undress, drive to a lesson, go through 90 minutes of yoga, drive back home them undress again. Ann's video has been a godsend. The lessons are short, some about 3 minutes, some as long as 20 minutes. They flow together like yoga, and strengthen every part of the body. If you asked me to describe Ann's Senior Fitness program is a cross of ballet and yoga. I highly recommend this video!

I am a busy mother of three kids, and find this video fantastic. It is not too straining, and I worry about that since it's been a long time since I have worked out. I have tried several videos on Amazon and this is my new go to. It is simple movements that you can learn easily and do at your own pace. She narrates it to explain what she is doing and how it benefits your body, and reminds you to remember your core muscles throughout.

The first video is a great walkthrough, I recommend watching it through before actually participating. The one thing that I don't really care for is that there is not always a full body shot of her performing the exercises, and you get a lot of background in the shot. Other than that, keep going, it's worth it! The first episode, which I have been doing, runs through two times, once from the front and then from the back, so you can really get what she is doing. It isn't overly demanding, it's a ten minute workout, and you can do it twice if you choose. Many basic ballet movements, you can hold them for as long as you want and make it a bit more difficult even. It is relaxing from the narration and music, to the environment and movements. Definite thumbs up!
