Let me first give you a little background about my history of listening to OAR. First, I got The Wanderer to get Crazy Game of Poker on CD. Obviously, most people who hear of OAR hear of Crazy Game of Poker. Next, I liked that CD so much that I bought Souls Aflame. That was another great CD.

I'm editting my review, b/c I went back and listen to the album a couple more times. It's not as bad as I originally thought, but the way some of their best tracks (Hey Girl, Might Shift, and About Mr. Brown) are slaughtered is inexcusable. On the other hand, this album is worth having if only for Delicate Few, If Only She Knew, and Somewhere Down the Road.

AND NOW---

OAR follows up those 2 releases with Risen, an incredible mix of new and old tunes. OAR brings back and remakes songs like Hey Girl, Delicate Few, Untitled, Night Shift, About Mr. Brown, and Here's to You. Then, they write some new songs like Hold On True, If She Only Knew, She Gone, King of the Thing, and Someone in the Road.

All the old songs are much bolder and have some revised and even more catchy melodies. Hey Girl and About Mr. Brown have never sounded better.

The new songs fit the same mold as some of OAR's older tracks. My personal favorite track on this CD is If She Only Knew. It's certainly the hardest OAR track that I've heard, but it's got a catchy, almost-reggae-like-but-alternative feel.

If your OAR listening experience has been anything like mine, this CD will make a great addition to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Different, but not disappointing. The band matures AND rocks, February 12, 2004

Of A Revolution developed a big cult following on college campuses with their awesome first two CDs, The Wanderer and Souls Aflame. Risen contains some songs updated songs from those albums, but it can also stand on its own as a great bunch of music. The band really grows up here on this CD with much more diverse, melodic songs. Marc in particular takes his songwriting and singing up to another level, but nooone is carried by the others. Delicate Few, If Only She Knew, the new version of Hey Girl, She Gone are all incredible, and the disc is incredibly consistent in this age of singles/filler albums. Forget the DMB comparisons, Risen proves once and for all that Of A Revolution can stand on their own as a great band. Their albums are incredible and their live shows are comparable to anyone's, so get this album today to join in on the fun!

I first heard of OAR from my cousin. OAR is one of the most underrated bands. Their music is already better than most of the music we hear on the radio today, and these guys are just getting started. I suggest that u buy this cd and their older ones. OAR is going to be the next Dave Matthews Band one day, and i will guarantee that. Marc's lyrics are so pure and positive, and listening to this band puts you in such a good, positive mood. Support OAR and buy this cd. Its their best yet and you wont regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The beginnings....of a revolution., February 6, 2001

Getting ready to change the face of music as we know it, O.A.R. comes to us from Columbus, Ohio via Rockville Maryland with what we'll call their first REAL release. Already having two albums out that are basically just stripped down live studio recordings, this is the first chance anyone will have to hear them with a real producer in a real studio.

Don't be fooled for a second by the slick production on this album, this is a band that is and will be known forever for their live show...which speaks for itself, full of ingenuity, passion, and soul! Make sure to buy your tix quick when they come around to your town, these guys are known for selling out shows quickly....

Let's get down to the dirty, this third album of their's...Risen. This will be short and sweet because I know you're sick of reading this by now. This album is going to change the face of popular music as we know it, that simple. In an age where homogonized artists are all sounding the same and using the same guitar licks and/or beats...O.A.R. comes at you with an incredibly done twist of roots rock and reggae. Imagine if the Police would have been good old American boys...and you still can't begin to hear the funkyness these boys have. Some of the songs on here will stick to your ears like mashed potatoes in your stomach....ummm...yeah...somethin' like that! Catchy, feel good, fun, and incredible.....enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another solid album from a solid band, February 28, 2003
This review is from: Risen (Audio CD)
I am going to have to admit that at first, OAR was a hard sell to me. I listened to a couple of their songs and I wasn't really impressed. But the thing is, I had those songs stuck in my heads, I couldn't help but mutter the lyrics nonstop. Finally, to satisfy my urges I went out and purchased one of their albums. I was hooked. Everyone of my friends has either heard of OAR through me or someone else and almost every last person likes them emphatically. I don't know what else to say besides buy this CD. If you've never heard them before, download one of their songs and check them out but do buy the CD as they aren't a huge band and they could really use your support.

5.0 out of 5 stars O.A.R.'s Third Album Doesn't Dissapoint, February 11, 2001

Teaming up with producer John Agalia, O.A.R. has really hit a home run with their third album, and first available nationally. Keeping true to their roots while expanding into knew musical territories, O.A.R.'s third album has all the makings of a classic, it holds together well and has a great flow, but each song stands up on it's own as interesting and thorughly fun to listen to.

I can't stop listening to it all the way through. Can't wait to see them in concert again, ...of a Revolution is now really one of my favorite bands.

Pick this one up right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, June 10, 2001

I've yet to meet a person who has seen oar in concert or listened to more than a few songs of any of their cds and still don't like them. Although nothing can compare to their amazing live presence, Risen comes pretty close. I love every song on the cd, and although its missing the amazing tracks "that was a crazy game of poker", "black rock", "city on down" and "i feel home" (you should definetly get them!) its definetly my favorite OAR cd. If you ever get the chance, see them in concert. Until then, this should suffice.

5.0 out of 5 stars What took so long to get these guys signed?, February 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Risen (Audio CD)
It's amazing that it took this long for a great band like O.A.R. to get a national recording deal. "Risen" is a beautiful blend of the old and the new that keeps you wanting to listen to it over and over again. I've yet to listen to anything else since I got the CD two days ago. The music is catchy and recognizable, but at the same time it is very original and it makes you think. You don't just listen to Marc sing, you listen to what he's saying and you relate with him. The music that goes along with his lyrics helps you understand what mood he was in when he wrote the song. There is not one bad song on this spot and it is great throughout. I highly recommend this album along with the other two. They are all must buys.
