not for all windows,

Buyers should be aware that this device will not fit properly on all types of windows. I have windows that are composed of two panes of glass, side by side. One pane is fixed (stationary), and the other slides open to one side. The window cannot slide over this device. I should have realized that before buying it, but I didn't really understand what a "sash" window was. I did install them anyway, because I don't need to open the windows past a certain point, but if you have the type of window I described above and you want to use this device as intended (i.e., to be able to slide the window over it when the security bar is flipped down flat), it won't work.I'm still giving it a good review because my ignorance is not the seller's fault, I just want to clarify for others what it is not good for, so others won't make my mistake. Other than not being able to slide my window over it, it is easy to stick on and is very secure on the window. It's not as ugly as having a big bar in the window, but I really should have purchased a regular clamp type lock at the hardware store for a lot less.

These are great!,

These are really great - they are clear so they're not very obvious, and they do what they're supposed to do. You can snap them flat to open the window all the way, or click them into the lock position. It will be very hard for intruders or small children to get the window open. A burglar wouldn't waste his time making the amount of noise he'd make to get in with one of these in place. And when I moved I just soaked them with nail polish remover and with a little convincing they came off. I ordered 12 more for my new house!

Old lady feels secure!,

I like to keep one of my aluminum windows cracked open just wide enough to let my cats go in and out. Of course, a burglar could easily reach in and raise the window and go in and out, too. When this type of window is closed it is secure as the release latches are inside but opened it is vulnerable as an intruder can easily access the latches.I needed a lock but didn't want to have to drill any holes or go into a big production. I am not handy. The Burglabar absolutely did the trick, even though it is tiny, about two inches in length. It fits vertically on the top pane at any level you choose, allowing the window to be opened to any desired height. It sticks right on the upper pane with a strong adhesive and its plastic hinge-bar can be positioned and locked to prevent the lower pane from being raised. Trying to raise the lower window when the Burglabar is in place will result in the window whacking against the bar. So the window cannot be budged. If you wish to raise the window to a different height at any time, the bar can be clicked flat and the window will easily ride over it. Positioned as it is behind the glass, an intruder has no way of accessing it. This is a simple, nifty gizmo, and this price, as compared to the price from many merchants, is very reasonable. For $10.90 with shipping, you can have peace of mind. This merchant is in Canada, but my item was shipped immediately and I got it in 7 days.

Not Very Strong,
This review is from: Burglabar
After testing these out in my home I've found that the bond just isn't as strong as I had hoped it would be. On my first test site I allowed the bond to sit for a week. I then went outside and I was able to snap the Burglabar off the window with a reasonable amount of effort. These might be good to keep a baby or pet inside, but they're not going to keep a burglar outside for more than a few seconds.

I had been told about this item by a friend and was not sure it would work. But since installing it on the the patio door I feel much safer. It is a good thing.

Way over-priced after shipping cost,
By

Okay, I admit it; it's my fault that I am dissatisfied. I didn't read the description well enough to notice that the $5 price tag is for ONE of these little gems. AND I didn't read the check out info well enough to notice that the shipping was another $6. $11 for one of these is just too much.It appears that the seller bought these in larger packages and is re-selling them per piece because it is just dropped in an envelope loose with a xerox of the install instructions. Update March 2. Adhesive not strong enough--I wanted to use mine as a way to lock the window in an open position, but adhesive not strong enough. When opening the window, Burglabar can be easily knocked out of position. I wasted my money on this product. I recommend Window Wedge.

Awesome little invention!,

We use this not only as a security device to keep intruders out, but to keep my 3 year old daughter in. She likes to let herself out the sliding door, but with the Burglabar she can't! I just wish we had installed it a bit higher so she wouldn't be able to reach it if she drags over a chair to stand on.

I first learned about these if Florida. Couldn't locate any in western New York. Easy to set-up, easy to use. No wooden poles or locking crash bars needed. Pretty good idea! I now keep a couple as spares.

Child-proofing made easy....,
This review is from: Burglabar
I purchased these for the sole purpose of keeping my toddler from opening our sliding closet doors. Our doors are made of solid wood (1950's home), and these adhered to them just fine, with proper surface prep. They've been on now for 3 months, and even with the beating they take from my toddler trying to open the doors, they are still sticking.I followed the instructions and wiped the area clean with rubbing alcohol, twice, just to be sure. Due to their location near the edge of the door, I was able to apply a clamp immediately after pressing them into place, and left the clamp on for 24 hours. They work wonderfully for this purpose and are hardly noticeable due to their transparency. Definitely worth buying if you want to use them for this purpose. |
