I waited to write this review after reading both volumes of this book - not so much because they seem to be a set (volume two continues the story) but because I was so into reading that I couldn't stop to write this. I'm using this text to review both volumes.

I've read several works from Stephen Knight (this being his most recent). He is a fantastic storyteller. This story has constant action and is deep - this is no shoot-em-up dime-store paperback. Interspersed are some parts that made me laugh out loud. Throughout, the story is fast-paced and gripping. When I was reading, be it in a doctor's office, the train to work, or on my couch, I was part of the story. My mind often wanders while I read a book, but not in this case. It is easy to pick up and imediately fall into the story.

I really like Knight's writing style The story pulls you in, and it is so fast paced that it keeps you hooked. There is enough detail to draw you a good picture, yet not so much that you get bored reading paragraph after paragraph about minor details (think of a female author's description about the decor in a living room).

It took me a while to read the story - it's a good solid story - it made me think of Stephen King's "The Stand" - another great work.

If you like any of Stephen Knight's work you'll enjoy this. If you haven't yet read anything by Knight this is a great place to start. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I've read more than a few zombie books in my day. Heh, I know, I know a weakness of mine. Most of these books haven't been all that good and some downright horrible.

THIS book, however, is a fine, fine action adventure. This is the book the movie World War Z SHOULD be based on.

The gold standard of zombie series. Stephen Knight has the best perspective and knowledge of a military reaction of any of the authors I have read and I have read a lot of them. His characters are well developed and he doesn't throw too many scenarios at you. Some writers have 15-20 characters, situated in different parts of the country or world and it can get confusing when you are in four or five different series, waiting for another book. I liked the fact that I could read other books in between the releases of this series and pick up right off the bat. I am not crazy about the uber zombies, but they don't overwhelm the story line. One of the few writers to deal with the inevitability that there would be millions and millions of zeds and not a really good chance of survival in that little cabin in the woods. Pretty bleak outcome but tight story lines.

Humankind is on the brink of extinction and a thin green line is our only hope. Millions of zombies are making their way to a Texas laboratory defended by Joint Task Force SPARTA. This is the final entry in author Knight's exciting series. He has progressively ratcheted up the action that began in a more nuanced tale of a special forces team making it out of Manhattan. This outing offers tons of explosions, biting and a bit of suspense attributed to high-order zombies. But it the visual of a tidal wave of necromophs crossing America that captured this reader's attention and imagination. It is great zombie fun with lots of testosterone-laced military action.

I have to give this book an excellent rating. I enjoyed the author's earlier works, "The Gathering Dead," "Left With the Dead," and "The Rising Horde, Volume One." This fourth book brings our protagonists and their fight against the undead full circle. Well developed characters, exciting action, and a good tight story make this another must read for fans of the genre. I highly recommend it.

I have been on a zombie book kick for the past few month and this series has been one of the best so far. Very well written and just the right amount of technical detail.

Very well written and a very exciting series. Not the type of book I usually read but I really got hooked and will probably try all Knight's books.
