5.0 out of 5 stars Every song is wonderful...
This CD should come with a warning label-- "Listening to this CD while driving can be hazardous to your health. Use special caution while listening to That Kind of Grace." Every song on this CD is wonderful, an opinion shared by my 10 and 13 year old sons.

3.0 out of 5 stars Like the older recording better.....
The older recording made in the 1980's has a more "folk" type sound to it and I much preferred that. The words and the melody are the same, some instruments were added and I feel have ruined the music. My cassette tape is near to worn out of the 1980's recording and I was trying to replace it!

5.0 out of 5 stars David Roth is a rising star whose lyrics and music shine!, August 27, 2000

I had the opportunity to meet David and hear him perform at a conference in Hilton Head, S.C., a few years ago and have been a fan ever since. His sensitive lyrics and smooth voice are captivating on all of his CDs, and the mix of emotions in the order of songs takes one on a journey of the heart. I own all of his CDs and "Rising in Love" happens to be my favorite. The clarity of sound on each CD is brilliant, light, airy and evocative. I hope you read this, David, and know that you're a troubador extraordinaire. May you go from strength to strength!

It has been 12 years since I was lucky enough to find David's music. These songs still make me laugh, cry, love more fully and think more clearly. Some music is to listen to but these songs are to live by.

I saw David at Stone Soup in Providence RI a million years ago and bought the previous release of this album...it was great then but its even better now. I don't have many albums that I still want to play all the time but this one is one of those I'll be playing when I'm 110 years old 8) Buy it buy it buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best-kept secret out there, January 22, 2008

iTunes is doing an amazing thing for me -- it's giving me the opportunity to pull out CDs I haven't heard for years and put them into active rotation on my computer. One that I pulled out recently was David Roth's RISING IN LOVE.

This guy is almost unbelievably talented -- a truly great vocalist, a talented guitarist, and a wonderful songwriter. Plus, he's a really nice guy...

RISING IN LOVE is David Roth's first solo "album," although by 1993, when this was released, he'd been performing and recording for a number of years. This album contains much of the best of his early work; songs like "Rising in Love," "Don't Should On Me" (with guest Christine Lavin), "May the Light of Love," and a personal favorite, "Norman's Way."

I first had this album on a cassette, and was very excited when the CD was released. However, I noticed right away that something was different. David Roth had gone back into the studio and re-recorded the entire album for the CD. While the songs are the same, the performances and arrangements differ slightly. Some I like better, some I don't like as much, but every song on this album is a good one. Years ago I asked him why he re-recorded the album for CD, and he told me that the quality of the original recordings just wasn't up to CD standards, and he welcomed the opportunity to polish up these old songs.

You can't go wrong with a David Roth album, but this is one of the best. For anyone looking for a singer-songwriter with talent and depth, this is your guy. I can't figure out why he never became a folk "star" on par with John Gorka, David Wilcox or Christine Lavin. He's as good as it gets.

David Roth is the best ever! His music is soothing to the soul and his lyrics are a celebration of love and kindness! I have all his CDs and love each of them so very much! But this one has a special place in my heart as "Rising in Love" is "our song" for my husband and me!! So beautiful!!
