The storyline: Anne, a savvy Philadelphia PI, comes to New Orleans after she's anonymously sent a picture of her little sister Katie, who disappeared without a trace three years ago, in front of a French Quarter nightclub called the "Rising Moon." Anne's not going to believe her little sister is really dead and gone til she sees a body.

When she arrives at the club, the blind musician owner, John Rodolfo, gives her the brush. He thinks she's a groupie and the thinks he's rude but very hot.

A check with the New Orleans Police Department reveals that there's a serious pattern of disappearances emerging and most of them are affiliated somehow with the Rising Moon--several have worked there in fact. The detective, Sullivan, hires Anne to help with the case. (That's pretty irregular in police work, by the way)

Since it's Mardi Gras time, Anne takes a job at Rising Moon, which comes with a room. She pretty quickly discovers a gris gris under her pillow and starts doing voo doo research. She also starts 'doing' Rodolfo very shortly afterwards as well.

"Rising Moon" is good 'candy.' If you just want to read a hot, steamy romance novel and not think much--this is your book.

If you're interested in any way in challenging detective novels and well-laid mysteries, you might want to pick up something else. Anne's thinking below the belt a lot of time. She's pretty weak for the role Handeland has put her in and she's a push-over most of the time.

The conclusion was okay--but obvious to me. I think most of the writer's time was spent developing the romance rather than the story as a whole. This is my second Handeland book and I very much like the previous one better.

Handeland had definitely improved with age. Her Nightcreature books only gotten better with each serving. Not only that, they each could be a stand-alone and still be enjoyable.

In Rising Moon, the reader returns to New Orleans during the Mardi Gras season. Anne, a regular plain Jane, is drawn to the city by a picture sent to her of her missing sister (gone for three years) standing in front of a jazz bar. Upon arrival, no one has seen or heard of her sister, but the owner of the bar, a blind musician, has definitely caught her eye. Anne in pulled in by Conner (the homicide detective from previous books) to keep an eye on John-the bar owner-because he is suspected of the missing persons/murders occuring in the Crescent City. Stranger and stranger things begin to happen.

I have to admit, I normally can guess what is going on at least 1/2 way through a book. And even though I knew certain people had something to do with the problem, I soooo did not guess the ending of this one. I would recommend Handeland's books to anyone who likes the romance, action, and fast-pace she delivers. Even though, each book is a stand-alone, I would suggest you start from the beginning just so you can get the full effect.

This isn't the first time i read this book, but it was the first time i made the connection between the book before it and this one. SPOILER. I hadn't realized that the main guy in this book was the evil grandpere' of crescent moon (was that its name). It gave me a new outlook on the novel as a whole and i appreciated lori handeland's writing all the better. i forget the characters name (grandpere) was so evil in the first book and there was not a lot of sympathy for him, but in this next book he appeals to you and you feel bad for his suffering. plus the romance between him and his PI was really steamy. I really enjoyed it, and like everyone else said, its really cool to see how far handeland's come as a writer..

Lori writes a fantastic adventure, once again. I read Rising Moon in one sitting, though I do that with many books. This was a page turner in every sence.

Philly PI Anne Lockheart recieves a picture in her mail, of her long-missing sister standing outside a New Orleans jazz club. It takes her about five seconds to pack up and leave, ariving in the French Quarter the next day. She not only gets a job and an appartment at Rising Moon, the Jazz club owned by a blind sax player, but she also checks out the police, finding out that her sister Kaite is not the only one to dissapear at Rising Moon.

Long, long time resident and club owner John Rodolfo imediatly captures Anne's atention, but it seems, though his body says yes, he want's nothing to do with her. Anne continues investigating her sister's murder, and John gives in to temptation...more than once! But also after her affection is homicide detective Conner Sullivan.

While the two men, and John's friend and bartender, King, continually butt heads over Anne and Sullivan's increasing suspicion that John's behind the dissapearances and murders, Anne gets more questions than answers.

Later, men start growing fur, a certian sight comes into play, and Anne keeps seeing her sister...or who she thinks is her sister.

A stimulating read that keeps you up at night, Rising Moon is an almost-perfect five.

Almost only because I'm a greedy reader. I hate when good books end - why can't they go on forever? The ending was a little abrupt for me, but still enjoyable and entertaining.

You'll love it if you're into fast-paced paranormal with a little sex on the side.

I enjoyed it.I have read all the Nightcreature Novels. Can't wait for the next one.

This book has it all! Romance, intrigue, mystery, suspence, voodoo..the works!! Lori Handeland just keeps getting better and better. A must read.

Anne Lockhart, PI, is searching for her sister, Katie, who disappeared three years ago. She receives a picture of her sister in the mail showing her standing in front of the bar, The Rising Moon. Anne journeys to New Orleans and meets John Roldolfo, owner of The Rising Moon. His spellbinding ability to play the saxaphone has her mesmerized. He is also blind. Thus begins her journey in locating her missing sister. I thought this book was one of the best in this Nightcreature series, so far. I thoroughly enjoyed its twists and turns and the unveiling of the mystery was exhilirating. Almost everything came as quite a surprise. I highly recommend this book and look forward to her next one.

Lori Handeland puts you under a spell when reading this book. The book has a mystery plus romance. I couldn't put it down.

John Rodolfo runs a blues club in New Orleans called the Rising Moon. He is very secretive and also blind. He is a wonderful jazz player and totally fasinates Anne Lockhart.

Anne Lockhart is a PI, she is looking for her sister who disappeared three years ago. Someone has sent her a picture of Katie, standing in front of the club. So Anne is here to find her sister, what she finds instead is John and a Detective Conner Sullivan. Each man seems to be attracted to her and Sullivan convinces her to help him investigate John and his club.

But nothing is as it seems and the full moon is coming soon. The time when all secrets shall be known.

I have been a fan of the Lori Handeland "Night Creature" books since the first one and this one is just as good. Don't miss it.

Anne Lockhart is a private investigator on a mission to find her sister Katie. Missing for three years, a photo in the mail of Katie spurs an impromptu trip to New Orleans, where Anne's pretty sure she can never fit in amongst the voodoo and Mardi Gras spirit. She heads straight for the Rising Moon, the club her sister appeared in front of, where she encounters an astounding man. His musical talents draw people like bees to honey and his blatant sex appeal doesn't hurt either. John Rodolfo, blind and loner by choice, is more moved by Anne than he'd like to be. Her voice calls to him, and before long, her pull is too strong to resist. Even as their attraction wins out, John condemns himself for he can bring her nothing good. As Anne unravels the mystery of the missing Katie, John's involvement becomes frighteningly clearer and the unexplained deaths in New Orleans for the past six months come to a boiling head. Voodoo alters, strange wolves and multiple missing persons make for a confounding stage, but Anne manages to hold her own admirably.

With all its amazing twists, this one kept me guessing till the very end. What started as a series about her jager-sucher (German for "hunter-searcher") characters hunting down supernatural baddies, has transpired now into the Nightcreature series (in the last three books, this one included). The focus is more on the werewolves, in various forms, and how their continued mayhem has affected the city of New Orleans. Dirty, raucous and yet still hopeful, New Orleans itself has a strong voice in this novel, with clear tributes made, celebrating its survival instincts and love of passionate life. There can be no better place for this series as Handeland draws it out and encourages its gritty and boisterous nature. Her characters thrive there and soon Anne is living the strange unreality the city so often portrays. Her drive to find her missing sister, while vital, does not define her. Her character still feels passion and sympathy for those around her. She's the perfect counterpart to John's determined aloofness and determinedly self-inflicted torment. If readers have followed the series, John will begin to ring eerily familiar and the surprising twist towards the end may have you gasping at his identity.

Several previous characters make an appearance, the jager-suchers, Detective Sullivan and the gutsy voodoo priestess Cassandra, but this one can be read alone and still be moderately enjoyed. Would I personally advise it? No. To fully understand and appreciate John's plight, readers might want to have at least read "Crescent Moon", the official start of the Nightcreature chapter in the series. The romance, I'm happy to say, picked up considerably in this installment. Their attraction is believable and heartwrenching. Handeland's signature tight, clean writing style might seem bare bones to some, but fits so well with her fast-paced and suspenceful storylines. Another five star winner from an amazing author. Her next Nightcreature novel, "Hidden Moon", releases July 31, 2007.
