Product Description

Rising Storm is the next game in the award-winning Red Orchestra franchise. You know the great gameplay, innovative features and realistic audio and graphics of RO2 - Rising Storm will take this to the Pacific Theater, adding even more features, new levels, new weapons and new factions.

The game will allow the player to fight across iconic locations from the famous island-hopping campaigns in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945, as the US Army and Marine Corps fight it out with the Imperial Japanese army and Special Naval Landing Forces. Players will experience beach assaults, jungle fighting, close quarters night fighting and more across Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Saipan, among other iconic battles. The player is able to take the part of either side – American or Japanese – battling it out online in multiplayer on up to 64-player servers.

Rising Storm also introduces an entirely new type of gameplay to the franchise - asymmetrical warfare. The Americans have the apparent advantage in firepower with their fast firing semi-automatic rifles, fully automatic weapons, and devastating flamethrower. The Japanese balance this out with gameplay elements that model their raw courage, ferocity, and cunning use of equipment. Their knee mortars allow them to rain indirect fire down on their enemies from anywhere in the map. Grenades can be planted and turned into booby-traps for unwary GIs. The Japanese put very high store on close-quarter combat, with a bayonet on almost every weapon – even machine guns and SMGs. Their banzai charge suppresses the enemy making it difficult for them to return fire and gives them an opportunity to close in to use bayonets and katanas on their opponents.

Take part in large scale multiplayer combat in the Pacific, iconic battles (Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Guadalcanal), and asymmetrical gameplay.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an incredibly fun WWII shooter August 18, 2014

I've always been a fan of WWII games, especially ones with online play. This game is very similar to Battlefield 1942 and Day of Defeat Source. You choose from set loadouts and can't customize weapons like in BF4 or COD. Although I am a big fan of the ability to customize weapons/loadouts in online shooters, the inability to do so does not take away from this game. It is also challenging and is not just a run and gun shooter that does not require skill like COD. This game requires strategy and skill and I would not recommend it if you are looking for a easy to play noncompetitive online shooter. If you played PC games in the 90s, this game will bring you back to the days of BF1942 in all its glory. This is a very fun game and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Multiplayer Game June 5, 2014
By Matt M.
Rising Storm is an amazing multiplayer game. If you're looking for a fun single player experience, you're going to have a bad time.

The learning curve can be steep; it is not anything like Call of Duty or Halo. You have to think before you act, or you will be killed quickly. It plays more like IRL paintball game than a typical video game: movement, teamwork, and situational awareness are much more important than twitchy reflexes and memorizing the maps.

It has very realistic weapon mechanics including

- high damage (one or two bullets can kill you!)
- ballistic drop (you have to adjust your sights for long range shots)
- reloading (method differs for weapons: stripper clips, box magazines, or single cartridges depending on what you're shooting)

There is (as of this writing) a thriving and friendly community of players online. People are friendly and talkative, because teamwork is key. Grab a microphone and hop on a server!

Graphics are a bit dated, but that in no way detracts from the experience. If anything, it's a bonus: it will run smoothly on even older hardware, and with an incredible number of players (usually 32 vs. 32) connected to the same server.

The other reviewer is totally right, though: there's no single player in Rising Storm. Furthermore the single player in the predecessor, Red Orchestra 2, is TERRIBLE. It's really just a multiplayer match with bots that have terrible AI. It's clearly an afterthought, and really only good for learning the basic game mechanics. Play it long enough that you can figure out what the different weapons do, and how to throw grenades without killing yourself or your teammates ;-). Then go play multiplayer.

If you're looking for an amazing multiplayer game, look no further. I'd give this game six stars if I could. It's a WONDERFULLY refreshing break from the typical AAA shooter like CoD or Battlefield.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very nice WWII game September 18, 2014

A very nice WWII game, but is kinda hard to get to grips with as it is very simulator-based, you cant just be shot up 10 times and live like some other games. The game is set as either USA vs Japan or Russia vs Germany in some very nice maps, some are just HUGE but there are also some very nice street fighting and trench-like fighting maps also to cover all the scenarios.
