Rising Storm was Ougi's earlier effort before Brother.
Hence the scenes though explicit are not as varied as "Brother". It's just natural for a talented Yaoi manga artist like Ougi to improve. Rising Storm is more than just sex. I enjoy all 3 stories here. The titled story is so far fetched that I cannot help but like it for what it is. The second one about the dentist with his first so called "fling" is pretty hilarious. As for the 3rd one, I wish there is more. The last few pages on Ougi is pretty interesting. I wish more Yaoi artist will dedicate a few pages on themselves like Ougi. A worthy addition to my Yaoi collection.

I'm rapidly turning into a Yuzuha Ougi groupie. Her manga are getting better and better, and I hope that Drama Queen will go on to license the rest of her titles. "Rising Storm" is obviously a beginner's work but Ougi's talent is such that it surpasses those of a lot of veteran authors.
Once again, Drama Queen's done a great job with the production: good binding, nice jacket, crisp, clear printing. The translation for "Rising Storm" isn't as fluid as that for "Brother" and there are a number of annoying grammatical mistakes and a few misspellings. (Note to any DQ'ers: it's "Galle", with an accent aigu, and "Meissen", for example.) But these are just fussy quibbles. Buy the book.

Not that you would find this in the YA section of your library, but if you're into Yaoi this is a pretty good book to check into. Not for the youngsters to be sure.

I found Yuhuza Ougi through her title "Brother" and immediately fell in love with her artwork. Believe me, she doesn't leave anything out, baby. The story was interesting and funny, heart-wrenching, and visually pleasing overall.
If hardcore yaoi is your meat n potatos, then this title is for you. Highly, highly recommended (along with her other works!)

another PWP designed to entertain,

This review is from: Rising Storm (Comic)
the main story revolves around an innocent, strapping, college-age karate (i think) student and his umbelievably OTT summer employer. it all started when reona was asked to take over his senpai's summer job (due to said senpai being involved in an accident) and was whisked away to a huge mansion where his main job was to take care of a prized horse. well, to write more about the basic story would be pointless, considering how easy it is to give away everything... but suffice to say that it is, if nothing else, entertaining purely because of it's craziness and many funny bits. expecting anything more would be disappointing.
personally, i think that none of ougi-sensei's mangas are too concerned with plot. her strong points, however, is the sheer entertainment value of her works. plot-wise, "rising storm" (which looks like an earlier work) is seriously overshadowed by her other US-published manga, "brother," and i think that is saying something, considering that particular manga is not exactly known for its deep, riveting plot. however, enough about that. i don't think that readers grab ougi-sensei's books based on the strength of her plots - it's the pure crack and craziness that we crave and which she delivers in buckets. that, my friend, is why we seek her works. well, at least i do. her artwork is pleasant and bold while her men -- certified bishies. ougi-sensei doesn't shy away from explicit scenes - yeah, her sex scenes has to be one of the most detailed in the US market so far - which also manages to be romantic as well. her characters are lovable, from the innocent uke to the smitten seme, and in some ways doesn't always follow the uke-seme convention, which is refreshing. her supporting cast is also quite entertaining and funny too, which is a welcome change to drones that populate many a manga. all in all, suspend disbelief and just go with the flow. a light, easy cracky read from ougi-sensei.

I cannot believe anyone gave this more than 1 star. It is just the WORST Yaoi title ive read. Argh... no! Yes, it's Ougi and we all know what *that* means but unlike 'Brother' (which I like)this just has a nonsense plot... Just get Brother and not this if you're wondering which to get. The love scenes are just awkward and stiff anyway. I've never laughed so much at a manga, and not cause it was funny. Weak plot, the bonus story was disturbing and wrong. Just NO.
A boy goes to work for a rich guy who practically rapes him and it's just so LAME! He makes the boy break expensive things and pay for them with ridiculous chores and his body lets just say. It's like a twisted Ouran High. I can see how people might find it funny but for real humour get 'Challengers' by Hinako Takanaga. Like i said the end story was EXTREMELY wrong and the nastiest rape story in the history of Yaoi and i've seen my fair share of those-A boy is raped by his bodyguard after some failed murder attempts because his sister was killed by the boys grandfather or something like that and the boy actually confesses his love for him afterwards- i mean thats just creepy. There's another story about a dentist who likes a waiter and keeps trying to get him to brush his teeth. It was a little embarassing to read (although the dentist was hot- that was the ONLY good thing about it). This really is a tragic waste of paper, i feel sorry for the poor trees that had to die to produce this garbage! waste ur money if u want 2 but for something explicit get 'Target in the Finder' or 'Embracing Love' or 'Brother'- anything but this. The front cover should have been enough of a warning for me- they look like a troll and an ogre more than they do people. Ugk! |
