3.0 out of 5 stars Better in the films embrace, March 4, 2010

One of the great things about soundtracks is they pluck the good memory in your head that the movie made. As such when you first put the disc in your stereo you are already in a good mood and you have a number of mental `footholds' in the product at hand. And I'm sure that's one of the reasons I like them so much.

However we've all been in the situation where apart from one or two signature parts the soundtrack of a film doesn't move you because without the visual aspect of the experience the music seems flat or one dimensional. IMHO that is the case here. I quite liked this film when it came out, own it on DVD and in fact watched it again only a couple of months ago at which point I decided to take the plunge and buy the CD soundtrack.

And it is very much a case of the issue I just mentioned. Many of the pieces of music here are fairly barren of interest outside the context of the film though for sure fans of the film will recognise certain snippets such as parts of the tracks Eddies Showdown and Yakuza Pursuit but you'll probably find yourself wishing you'd just put the DVD on. Much is forgiven however by the excellent fun of the final track Tsunami and really, this thing will rock your socks off - albeit perhaps not in a Red Hot Chilli Peppers kind of way! I defy anyone not to be moved and feel empowered by this track and truth to tell given the tiny price being asked for this product at the time of writing you might as well pick it up if you are even half way interested in it due to the presence of this track.

Or buy the track on MP3... your call.

I love the title song on the movie Rising Sun and had to have it. No singing just the drums and sticks. I would love to have it in the longer version because the song is so good.
