4.0 out of 5 stars Risk for the rest of us!

3.0 out of 5 stars The fun doesn't last
I bought this game as a Risk fanatic expecting a whole new game with new exciting challenges. It was not. Although the game was still fun because it's Risk and it had great graphics it wasn't enough to keep my intrest too long. It's just normal Risk with the add-on "Same Time Risk" which isn't very fun, just confusing. If you haven't already bought a Risk CD I...

I enjoyed this game. It accurately reproduces the classic board game, and has a number of (optional) variants. Since the game allows you to select multiple computer opponents, each with its own strategies, you can play enjoyable games solitaire. As far as reliability, I have not had this game crash or lock up my computer at all. The game comes with some excellent tutorials for those who haven't played before. The only drawbacks I encountered were with the graphics and the pace of the game: there is a lot of Napoleonic-style animation that gets old after a while, but you can turn most of it off. Resolving each individual battle that a human player is involved in can take a while; I wish that there was a "fast finish" option for human players. (You can hit the space bar to accelerate combat between computer players.) Still, it takes a lot less time than rolling real dice playing the board game. Another (minor) objection that I have is that the game ends as soon as the last human player is wiped out; sometimes I'd like to watch the computer players duke it out over the ruins of my country! I'd recommend this game to anybody who loves the board game, or those interested in a simple but challenging strategy game.

If you haven't already bought a Risk CD I strongly recomend buying the origonal because of Ultamate Risk which can keep your eyes glued to the computer screen for mounths.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like the board game, but more, May 17, 2001
This review is from: Risk 2 (Mac) (CD-ROM)
The Risk II computer game is a lot like the original board game (same map, same rules, etc.) but there are even more option. You can add territories and add conections between territories. You can play by yourself, against the computer, or over the internet. One thing I liked about playing Risk II on the computer was that things go a lot quicker than if you're playing the board game (i.e. you can practicaly fast-forward the computer vs. computer battles). Another thing about playing on the computer is that you can learn the rules really quickly if you've never played before because the computer will prompt you as to what is going on and what you have to do. The only problem I have is that your computer enemies can be a bit erratic, and you never know what they will do. Of course this also adds a little something to the game as well. But overall, if you like the board game you'll love the computer game. If you've never played the board game you'll love the computer game.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked Risk II, February 5, 2001
This review is from: Risk 2 (Mac) (CD-ROM)
I bought this after reading the two reviews above. I agree with almost everything the first person (4 stars) said and disagree with everything the second person said. The pace of the game is slowed down a little by the animation that occurs when you roll the dice, but I found that helped build the suspense a bit and accurately recreated the experience of playing the board game. There are a lot of variations, and they are well explained...I got quite hooked exploring them all. One improvement I would suggest is the inclusion of Castle Risk as part of the package, although there is a "capitol" version of the game which incorporates some features of Castle Risk.

I had the original PC game of RISK which was and still is unbelievably fun and full of variety. This Macsoft version simplified too much of the former options that existed in Risk I. I cannot recommend this game. Hopefully, they improve it by bringing back all that was in the first RISK. Incidentally, I keep around my old PC just to play the former RISK.

I have since given it to my daughter who like the geopgraphy but also got bored with it in a month.

Risk II is quite a bit of fun when playing against the computer. But if you want to or plan on using the internet to play with your friends, be warned that when the person who gathers the game loses the entire game ends. Very frustrating.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this game, April 19, 2003

I really enjoyed this game, I had left it in a hotel while travelling a year ago, and I have not been able to locate it until today. Now I just re-ordered it and can not wait to start playing it again. I definately recommend this game to anyone who likes the board game. There are two version, the classic risk rules we are all used to, and the new computer rules. Basically more than one of your territories can attack making the game more strategic. If you can locate this game, get it then and now. It took me 2 months to finally find it. Amazon.com discountinued it, and so did everyone else. A reseller posted it on here and I grabbed it that minute!

Product didn't work. I love RISK II but this adaptation does not work on the IMAC. I returned it satisfactorily. I am satisfied but still looking for a good Mac version of RISK II.

3.0 out of 5 stars Question for Risk II takers, July 21, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Risk 2 (Mac) (CD-ROM)
Does anyone know how to actually save the game to your Mac? Everytime we've installed it, then tried to play the game without the CD, it doesn't work. It also doesn't allow us to save the stages we're on so we can go back to that same level when we're logged back on. Do you think it's an installation thing? Or is it a Mac thing? and is it resolveable? Would appreciate any advice....
